Greetings friends,

I usually don't have anything worthwhile to post. Especially not in the 'pink' section of AW.Org. My post are usually limited to the 'yellow' area. But this time is different.

Today, I have just taken possession of my very first 1950's automatic dryer! It's a Kenmore from I believe 1958. That's what the owner's manual said, but I solicit the experts on here to tell me for sure.

This was an estate sale find. Around here, you never see any vintage laundry equipment that isn't a Maytag wringer or Maytag center-dial. This is the very first 50's automatic dryer that I have ever seen in person. After seeing much eye-candy on this website, I recognized it immediately. Unfortunately the washer was not there. A newer replacement was. There was no price on it and the sale lady told me the woman who lived there moved to a retirement home about a year ago and was probably using it up until then. It was still plugged in and vented. She told me if I wanted it, she'd let it go for $10. At that price, I COULDN'T say no!

I got caught up in the excitement and failed to 'test' it prior to removal, but for $10, I'll take the risk. Overall, it's in very good cosmetic shape. The top is good and the control panel is good. The only rust is on the very bottom of the front panel. The under-side and back is free of rust. The drum inside is rusty though. I figured I could get it powder-coated or something later on.

Here's some pictures of the condition I got it in. This is as-is. No clean up. It's turned cold, so it will have to go into storage until I have time (and it's warmer) to work on it.

BIG pictures! Look out!

A mega button machine!

Jon, actually those wren't buttons.  Just dispalys for the alphabet washing and drying.  My best friend from high school, the matching washer was his mom's first washer.  And Ben, I think you're closer to what reality was bout these models, unless they were sold for 58-60.  My friend's mom, when that washer died, it was replaed with the exat model as Gansky shows for the 1972 nicely styled Kenmore with quiet pak.

And Tim, a huge CONGRATULATIONS on such an incredible, beautiful find.  Don't see many of these dryers.
