My trusty old dryer is in need of repair. The timer functions, however none of the off sections turn the dryer off. The display light stays on and the dryer keeps tumbling, without heat. Is the timer cooked or is there hope of fixing this sturdy machine.

A contact apparently is sticking/welded. Perhaps the timer can be (carefully) disassembled to attack the problem. (The anti-electronics sect holds that mechanical timers are much more reliable and robust and easily repaired than electronic controls, so there's hope for your machine!)

If this timer is like the newer ones from the 80's+, put a continuity meter between the large black and red wires on the timer with the machine unplugged. There should be no continuity in any of the "Off" positions of the timer. There should be continuity with the timer in any of the heating selections (not "Air Fluff" or cool down positions).

Start there and report back.
