I still am not entirely familiar with how LGs top-loaders work as far as switching from agitate to spin. I believe the new Whirlpool Cabrio machines now have a similar system, somehow locking the tub and agitator together without an actual mode switcher like the VMW, or a floating basket like the previous Oasis/F&P machines. From a few videos you can hear a faint electrical humming sound whenever they start to turn the basket, so I assume it's some kind of electromagnet doohicky. I wonder if that's what suddenly failed or misbehaved???
But I'm also confused... aren't the LG top-loaders Direct Drives?? If that's the case, how did the basket continue to spin while the wash plate stayed perfectly still? I'd think that the rotor was stopped dead and that the basket was just coasting down slowly, but it seemed to continue spinning at the same rate...
