Kenmore elite to Asko curb find

My neighbor across the street had this out on the curb. The impeller had stripped so got a new pump today. Putting this in place of my Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash which does well but needs a grinder and is now leaking rinse aid. pain in the butt to get the pump in, very tight quarters. Enjoy the pics. Nothing prerinsed. The measuring cups have solid candy melts in them and alot of it. The Asko needs a new upper washarm suporrt hub. When the upper rack is in the lower position, water comes out the top inlet port so not enough pressure to the arm. Work ok in the top position. Guess there is a bad or missing rubber check valve flapper. Will see it did tomorrow. Also went into the program mode and set it to super rinse which adds two more rinses. Anyone else have an Asko?

Asko D5253

I have the Asko D5253. Its currently in storage but overall is a good dishwasher with some flaws. I can hardly hear it running. If you put your ear close to the door at beginning of cycle, you can hear it switching between upper and lower spray arms. I stopped using because I personally am not a fan of the racking. I do not like how the middle rack is soo small. It tends to fit only smaller bowls and utensils if you are using the upper rack in the low position. I also don't find the dedicated two row small spray bars to work that great on stuck on foods. Another issue I have is with the "knife basket" they have at the top, I feel it could have a stronger spray. The dedicated silverware spray jet doesn't do much. When selecting the temp boost it seems it lowers the temp on all wash cycles accept Heavy. (maybe I'm reading the manual wrong) Some positives are the overall quietness, the Turbofan drying system (even plastic comes out dry) and the simple controls.
Also IIRC there is a rubber gasket that does move between baskets when you change positions.

Results

Things came pretty clean, used the heaviest cycle with extra temp and dry. The only issue is the food processor bowl had some debris left on the top but there isnt a third wash arm at the top- really could use one. Think there
Was too much candy metls in the load, for the detergent and the machine, the water left in the sump was rather murky so re ran. Have put two layers of reflectix insulation around the tub. Also did a short video.

I had a model 1585 back in 1999 and loved that dishwasher. Not as quiet as current machines, but from the D&M Roper, it was heaven. Used >5 gallons on the normal cycle, heated water to 165-170 on the heavy/pots & pans. The fan dry was equally as good as those on KitchenAid and others with fan-assisted dry.

The Euro dimensions and racking took some getting used to, but once you got over the hump, it held a ton of dishes. Asko covered the control board and new racks about about four years, then I moved it to my mom & dad's for another 5 1/2 before it needed another control board and we let it go.

I remember seeing your model in the store, always wondered how the spray tubes performed. I have a friend with the 2 rack version Asko, similar age, and he swears by it. It always delivers good results and he's never had a repair issue.

Yes. I am referring to the cycle icon. For example, the normal cycle with a teacup and a dish.

Wow that's some funky racking.
But with the right amount of Tetris, it does look like it would hold A LOT.
That bottom rack sure is tight though, height wise. Not sure my eartheware 'Merican (actually French, ha!) plates would fit in there.

I know your images showed it washing clean, but unless you poured food in there, its highly unusual for a filter based machine to end up with a slurry in the sump like that. The water in the sump should be clear by the end of the cycle.

Does the machine need a high loop on the drain hose? Is it clearing the sump after each pump out?

Racking- sump

The right tray in the middle rack pops out and you can also take out the entire middle rack to acommodate larger plates. It has a holder on the back of the machine that holds a loop in the drain hose. I had it laying over the sink so it is possible that it held too much water in the hose and it flowed back. Also, there was probably about a cup worth of solid candy melts (almond bark) in those two measuring cups during that load. It uses very little water for each fill so that may have been why. Not sure if there is a check valve on the drain pump but it does pump out well.
GE, first post- click on the link and look at page 9-10. It explains all the cycles and options.

This next link is the parts list and program options at the very end. It doesn't explain what the paramiters are for the 4 variant modes to the cycles. Set it on the 4th variant and can now use the speed setting on all cycles and it cuts an hour off the heavy cycle without the speed button on with the 4th variant programmed.
