had a call from a friend tonight her washer will not stop filling with water i changed the pressure switch on consol that dint work any other ideas guys?

Does the water flow stop when
1) The machine is shut off at the timer or control?
2) Not until power is disconnected (cord unplugged)?
3) Not until the supply faucet (hot or cold?) is turned off?

And what's the model number so we can get a handle on what specimen of Kenmore Elite toploader is involved.

not sure of model number it isnt at my house but it will fill to where it is set on panel start to agitate and keep filling only way to stop is turn faucets off feel sure its a solienoid i replaced pressure switch

does the water run into the machine no matter what you have it set for and whether it is on or off?

If that's the case you could possibly have sediment stuck in the the water valve preventing the diaphragm from shutting the water off.

If that's the case try replacing the water valve. Make sure the inlet hoses have sediment screens either at the beginning or end of the hose where it connects to the machine to prevent repeat of this.

All it takes is a small grain of sand or grit to cause this problem.

The hot or cold (whichever) valve is physically stuck open if turning off the supply faucet is the only way to stop the flow.

Could be a bit of debris obstructing the diaphragm or plunger from closing, as WashDaddy says, or some other internal problem.  Replacing the assembly is the best sure way to fix the problem.  Old-style valves could be disassembled for cleaning and even repair of internal parts, newer-style may be sealed.
