A family whose father worked for Sears did a big home remodel in the mid-60s. The kitchen had one of these with the lower oven that was inaccessible with the cooktop pulled out. I felt so sorry for them as the mother was proudly showing me all of the new stuff. Neither oven with top heat. A neighbor in Greenbelt had the 40" Kenmore model. The oven doors were sagging and the rubber door gaskets were disintegrating; of course, so was she at over 80.
Roper called this style of range the Roper Charm; it had little. The gas eye level ovens had trouble keeping the broiler pilot lit when it was in the upper part of the oven so to avoid using electric igniters, most of the later 30" models had the broiler in a drawer between the oven and the cooktop; looked like hell on an appliance where styling was 90% of the stove's draw. The heat from the oven burner made the surfaces over the cooktop very hot when using the oven or broiler and caused every splash or splatter to burn onto the largely polished aluminum surfaces making cleaning a problem if you tried to preserve the polish. I think the gas 40" Tappan Fabulous 400 had the broiler in the smaller compartment next to the oven.
I had a Whirlpool range in an apartment with no top heat during bake and the only way to bake decently browned biscuits was to bake them on pre-heat.
