Kenmore OR GE Fliter Flo!!!..Which one to choose?

Hey yall how's it goin, ok here's the deal, As yall know i am comming back to the states YAY!!!! cant wait, anyhoo when i do get home i'll need a washer as my daily driver, i want a BD kenmore like i used to have in my collection, but it seems to be a hard thing to come by in the area that i am comming back to, seems they have dried up in the Cleveland TN area, however i was thinking about an early 90's GE Fliter Flo, like the one in the pic below, as those are easyer to find.
I know i dont want the plastic ge models, the ones made after 1995, with the fast short stroke agitation. Ok i know i am a chatter box, what is the wash action like in the GE? Better than a KM BD? Or about the same? Some opinions from yall would be awesome and greatly appreciated Thanks Lee

I liked mine, mine was a mid 80's unit. The BD kenmores/whirlpool have far more character.. Have you tried looking for a whirlpool one?

Wash action is pretty aggressive in the filter flows. I was never a fan of GE/Hotpoint. I think their loud unrefined machines with a horrible rattley shaky spin cycle. I would stick to your guns and find that BD Whirly or Kenmore, failing that a real Maytag dependable care is also a great machine. I know many people here are big GE fans I'm just not one of them.

I'm definetly into the Filter Flo's. I will be getting one for my collection without a doubt. I do love BD Kenmores too though. I like the one on the right. Looks like fun!

Ah the washer on the right I had that same model. It developed a leak right where the pump housing mounts are. Got rid of it...didnt realize that I could have fixed it..oh well. It doesnt have the filter pan like a filter flo..it has the filter ring like a Hotpoint. Doesnt hold much and yeah man its loud...and washes OK..not outstanding by any means.The trnasmission housing on the washer is plastic. They cheapened this machine since it was the last of this design to be made. Porcelain even was very thin on the outer tub.

the GE on the right!!!! my friend had a TOL almost identical to that one in white it had another dial next to the timer for the mini basket setting and boy did they ever give it use. in the end its up to what your into more. me i like the fact my clothes would come out virtually lint free!!!!

I have been off for the past couple of weeks..but I promise I will look for you. I "travel" into elderly folks homes ... i.e. RN. I see lots of "porch" machines and some that in estate sell offs when the inevitable happpens. Would you take a rebuild or functioning only? Will you have a way to get from Knoxville to Cleveland? It is not too far away......actually my Neptunes came from Clevland. Maytag had a scratch and dent center there! But I am sure that Whirlfool has sold or closed it. I need to be careful there I guess. One of my best friends works at the customer support center here

For all yall's help. One other thing does anyone have a video of the wash action on this machine? I cant seem to remember what the was action was like on my 79 hotpoint, as i did not use it much, i mainly used my BD Kenmore 90 seris. Tnmike i appreciate you looking for me, and as far as a rebuild goes i wont have all the tools i need to rebuild it, as i sold all my stuff before i moved to Italy, so i would need a functioning one. I have been also thinking about the 80's GE fliter flo's, as from what i have heard they were not as cheap as the last models. Well the search is on,

I cannot tell you how I envy you your Kenmores. We had that exact pair for a time when I was a kid. They replaced a Bendix set that was actually newer; Dad got them used somewhere. The Bendii were a squeeze-tub BOL model that had to be manually filled, IIRC, and a matching dryer. I think something must have gone wrong with the squeeze tub on the washer- wasn't that their usual fate? The old Kenmores were workhorses for a number of years, then Mom got the hots for a new washer and dryer. We ended up with new BOL Kenmores circa about 1965.

As much as I love my centre-dial 'Tags, I wouldn't mind a set of those Kenmores like yours!
