Tom, I beg to differ with you, it's 1986. I was on vacation visiting a former neighbor in Rochester, NY September, 1986. They had just been put on the Sears floor. Had friends with belt drive pairs that one had Toast and the other Platinum pairs. Kenmore 70 series models wee already utilizing the DD mechanism. But fall of 1986 is when the 80 & 90/LK series used the DD mechanism.

Bob, I was referring to the color selection only. This ad was from the 1986 Fall & Winter, actual page #906, which is page # 916 on the scanned version, so you are totally correct.

The Toast and Platinum colors first appeared in the 1984 Fall & Winter catalog (actual page # 1052, scan page # 1045), which I would consider 1985 model year. My former neighbor Thelma had the 24" set in Toast. They had the older control panel design, with the center dial configuration. I'm quite certain they got them in Summer 1985.

I was in my late teens in 1985/86 and I can remember seeing the Sears flyers that came in the Sunday paper. I noticed the new control panels and the different opening. I figured there was a minor design change.

Had no idea that these were a new platform until 1988 when my mom bought a Whirlpool 1 speed Super capacity washer with the 5 vane surgilator and filter in the barrel. Was the same design agitator in the KA washers of that time.

Last of the belt drive I remember

Mom and I were at Sears and we saw the Limited Edition. The set was about $1500 and no way would dad not get upset if she bought it. In charcoal gray (only offered for a short time) it looked like the laundry that Darth Vader might have.
