Hi everyone, I recently replaced the motor cuplar on my Kenmore 90 series and today it smelled like burning rubber a little, then after the cycle finished it would not restart, just hummed. When I turned the basket it began clicking then starting and stopping. It began to run again after a few attemps. Do you think I need to replace the cuplar again ??

I will step out on a limb here and take a guess that the clutch has a lot of play in it or the motor is weak. It may possibly be that it was one of those tight pumps I saw come through a while back? Do you hear a squeal coming from the pump?

try taking it apart piece by piece.....

take pump off and turn machine on...noise gone?

remove motor and place on floor...turn machine on again...is noise still there?

this may help you pin point which part is causing the noise...

tranny........motor.......pump

also, the coupler may be binding/dragging on something

yes. make sure your coupler is seated correctly. this as I have seen is pretty important but as yogi says, put that motor on the ground and run it for a while without it being under a load but it may run well in that position and never push no water and clothes. They can be finicky. Don't give up on a most likely good motor especially if you don't have 15 more motors on the shelf to try out after that one.
