Found this fun and stylish little Kenmore Rossit-O-Matic (My name for it) with griddle attachment at the St. Vincent de Paul this evening. It had to come and sit on my counter, even if its rotisserie skewer is lost to time.

It came with all of its parts wrapped in a 9/17/69 issue of the San Jose Mercury News, which is full of grocery and movie ads, but no appliance ads.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but have you called the Sears parts number?

My mom recently needed a part for her Kenmore sewing machine. It's a beautiful machine from 1972, made in Japan.

On a whim I phoned them, and they had the part available!

They seem to keep EVERYTHING.......

My grandpa had one like that (not sure if it was Kenmore) but it had a yellow background on the panel with three buttons (bake?, broil?, rotiss), a temp knob and a timer. And the thing would make that wonderful rotisserie noise as well.

I had one as well up until we moved and took it back to the thrift store. It wasn't branded Sears though and now for the life of me I can't remember what it was called...looks identical. I see them occassionally still so you may just luck out and get the skewer.

You probably could get a rotisserie kit for a BBQ pit. Just use the spit and adjust the little end piece so it stays in the oven. I seem to remember the spit that come with those ovens had a wooden handle and the two four-prong thingies that punched into the meat.

Dan, I have 58Limited's style

...but with pushbuttons for the rotis and bake functions and the light is placed differently and is smaller. My skewer is the same, but I use four prong holders off my barbeque skewer.

That said, you may want to look at a skewer from a barbeque, and you will likely find something that will work!

I wish I had push buttons! I love 58limited's door, but I like my "coppertone" finish.

It's clearence time at Sears, so I may just have to see if I can find myself a new skewer. Might as well keep it in the family :-)

Kevin

Can you upload a pic of your rotisserie? You probably have the one my grandpa had. I think his had bake, broil and rotiss. Rotiss was a red button I think.

Finally, a happy ending!

So we had the bronze-ish Kenmore (see above), who had the working rottiserie motor, but no skewer.

And we had the Lovely GE Rotisserie/Broiler, with the skewer, but no working motor.

We were despairing over the situation this afternoon, cursing fate, contemplating the skewer with an eye towards disembowlment, when we suddenly noticed that the skewer had a little bakelighty-y thing-a-ma-jig up by the handle that was loose - and apparently by design!!!

Eagerly, we pulled it off, inserted it into the rotisserie, and turned on the power. VOILA!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we now have a complete working unit. Let the Rotissing, Grilling and Broiling begin!

Those Kenmores look very similar to my "Roto-Broil" 400 from appx 1955. It has 4 colored buttons on the left panel, marked, high, med, low, and bake, along with a timer knob and a button to activate the spit motor. The "bake" function is for an accessory that allows the cavity to be used as an oven rather than a broiler. It makes the best rotisserie chicken and it's so easy too.
