Kenmore set in St. Louis

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Yes that is from the last few years of the belt drive Kenmores. I wonder why there is no dryer pic. The person is selling both, but it is only the washer that is pictured.

Have a good one,
James

James is correct....

The washer is a 1981 model 70 series. It was produced for over three years before being replaced by the final belt-drive 70-series models. This was a common model and I had at least three of them in the 90s that I repaired and sold, built from early 1981 into 1983. The replacement to it was hardly different except it had automatic temperatures to match cycle wash time, and three water levels vs. this machine's five. The final Kenmore belt-drives have their series printed above the "Heavy Duty Plus" on the lower right corner of the control panel.

BTW James - what are we both doing awake so early?

My neighbor's washer of this model has an wigwag that is acting up. I swapped the washer out for her for a Maytag A612 that another neighbor was selling. If anyone wants this Kenmore as is, let me know -- free to a good home...

I can fix it and give it a good home Peter

We just need to figure a way to get the machine to Charlotte. I do have some stuff in Atlanta that needs to come here, and a dryer that needs to get to Atlanta - so maybe something can be worked out?

Why I was awake so early:

I decided to rest on the couch at around 9pm, and that rest turned into a 5 hour long sleep. I woke up at around 2:45am, and after about 20 minutes decided to log in. Which is when I saw this thread. I guess the posting times are based on Central Standard Time; Robert's time zone, which explains why my posting was logged at 2:03am, when my actual posting time was 3:03.

Gordon, I hope you get that washer. It would be a nice addition to your collection. Hopefully her condition is good enough that she needs little to no work.

Have a good one,
James

Ditto that almost James!

You didn't need to explain, but I woke up on the sofa too at close to 3am. I had been at the gym until 9:45 (BAD!) and arrived home hungry and tired. I had a snack and was gone until the starting of Divorce Court woke me up (I am a sound sleeper but not that much!). I did the same regarding checking out AW in the wee hours. More than likely I'll do much the same tonight....it's been a similar pattern all week.

I would like to have that machine. I've had three in the past, and they were great models. They didn't lack anything that most consumers wanted, though this model doesn't have a bleach dispenser (next up in line did). Given the 25+ year age of the machine, I probably would not let it get by with no work from me - at least a new belt and tub seals, possibly a pump as well, unless I can see evidence that this sort of work has already been done.

It doesn't happen often, but I have worked into a machine or two where I've found sealant, greasy finger prints, a new belt, etc. and realized "I'm not the first one here". One never knows on a machine of that age.
