It can, but...
The roto-swirl is intended for standard capacity machines and this is a newer style large capacity. Water will rise several inches higher on the RS than it does normally.
A proper cap is essential to protect the short centerpost and seals from flooding. The caps and seals used prior to 1978 are NOT good enough. Proper caps were available in both white and gold that come with new agitator studs and later style seals. They are part number 285155 and 285156.

P.S. - regardless of what agitator is used, the auger in this machine appears to be broken. There are a number of them on eBay to fix this problem but if it is broken as it appears, it is probably sharp.
