Kenmore Thread!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have really enjoyed this thread.

Lebron, I want to thank you for starting this thread. All the Kenmore washers featured here, were made when they made them right. They all had their own style, and beauty. But the main thing they all had, was quality! My favorites, are the models from the late fifties, sixties, and early seventies.
Aldspinboy, you really brought back some memories with that 68 model alphabet washer with that rotoflex agitator. I'd know that washer anywhere. My parents bought that model brand new in alvacado. That's the machine I would later learn with how to do laundry. The only thing I didn't like, was that if you didn't use the hi water setting, that rotoflex was bad about pulling buttons off. I prefer the rotoswirl myself. That machine lasted until 1993 when the timer died, and it couldn't be fixed. I hope yours lasts a long time. I may be wrong, but it sounds like it's slightly dragging a little. You might want to check the belt on it.
Again, thanks to all of you who submitted pictures to this thread, I wish I could, but mine is a 2000 model, so it's disqualified. I hope to see more pictures, and may all of you enjoy your holidays.

I apologize for my clumsy comments; I was trying to “stir up the pot” but I mis-stepped on some sensitive toes. That said…

Kevin, you’ve met me in person so you know me at least a little bit. What you wrote was offensive and went well over the line. Don’t know what the issue is, but this is the second time you’ve used the AW forum to attack me personally. Is there a problem that we need to resolve?

Gordon, as far as I’m aware, I don’t know you and we don’t have any history. As for being a “grown-up”, well, I said some negative things about some vintage appliances in the abstract. You, on the other hand, went after me, a vintage human being.

If I may...

Ken, everyone here is allowed their opinion. That's how it works. That being said...

I think you may have made your posted opinions personal, intended or not, by using pictures of one of Kevin's agitators and of Gordon's famed (and one of the most personal to him) Green Monster. If you had used pictures of one of mine in a post where you are knocking the brand or styling, I'D be hard pressed not to take it a little personal. Like me going after G.E. And what I don't like it while using one of those neat designs you make.

Also, posting detractions about the Kenmores in a thread that was started and ended up being popular to show off member's personal Kenmores might not have been the wisest choice. As you said, you were "stirring the pot...". That is usually intended to try to get a reaction. You have received your reaction.

Ken, I have absolutely NO problem with you. I enjoy your designs. So please take this as it's intended. Just some friendly advise...

Dave, you have a GREAT PAIR of appliances! Those are the exact models from 1996 I bought for my sister and brother-in-law in GA when they bought their brand-new house. I had the 1995 washer version, and still have the Lady Kenmore 27" 1989 (gas) dryer like yours. The dryer is the BEST, never repaired once! I, too, dislike the extended tumble on the sensor-dry cycle, so if I am there to monitor the machine, I turn the machine off. The highest model had the feature to turn-off the extended tumble. I wish I got that, but the unnecessary extra expense of other features dictated my choice. I should have repaired the washer again, it was only the coupler!

Sorry, Dave...

After actually looking at your dryer's control panel, it does not have the electronic sensor dry that both my sister & I have. Yours is the "Auto-Dry" with soft heat, ours are the Electronic Sensor dry with Soft Heat.

Fabric Softener Dispenser

If anyone needs one of those Kenmore white, agitator-top fabric softener dispensers from my 1995, I have mine saved unused/"new".

@ "combo52"

Thanks..... When I "FINALLY" close on that condo around that time, depending on how much space MY condo has for a laundry, I may take you up on your offer. If my laundry room/center inside my new condo has room for standard sized machines, I'll get in touch with you then, and you can bring that 1966-67 Kenmore Alphabet Set over then (if you'll still have it by then).

If not (meaning space allotment for laundry is smaller than expected..... and being that you're a short drive from D. C., then I take it that you're familiar with the way Real Estate is done in D. C. .... Square Footage goes down, while the Price goes up.... and location and commute to work will be VERY STICKY points for me when I am finally out and shopping for my condo), then I may have to go with that LG set by default because I have to deal with the space that's alloted for my laundry.

Other than maybe changing out the cabinets, counter-top and appliances in my kitchen (and again, that's going to depend on whether or not I end up getting a condo that either has the kitchen already done, or for exchange for an affordable price, I may have to consider a kitchen remodel within two or three years after buying and closing on the condo)(and I am going to want my kitchen to have cherry cabinets, granite countertops and a stainless steel appliance set), the condo is going to remain intact. I will only hope that at least, it will be able to accomodate a vintage Kenmore Laundry Set (such as that 1966-67 Kenmore Alphabet Set you and I are discussing).

If I find a condo like that, I am NEVER LETTING IT GO.....

Anyway..... thanks for putting the offer out there, and when I finally realize my dream of homeownership with the keys of my new condo in my hand, I'll be looking you up then.

Until Then!!!! :)
