Kenmore washer

I need help please,on identifying my old kenmore 110.81350130.
I am trying to repair. What year were these made?
From what I understand it has a spin drain with original gear case 385899 which changes to 389245.I am unable to locate a complete gear case,only internal parts. I was told a 3360629 gearbox with neutral drain will not work
due to the shaft length.Could I just swap the shaft from my old gear case?
I was told the gear cases look identical. I would like to keep this thing going
but I know I need washer gear and pinion as the plastic gear teeth are worn.
The original problem I was chasing was clunking during agitation when on regular
cycle,the thrust block was ok. I partially had taken apart the gear case and believe the clunk during agitation may be because excessive clearance between washer gear connecting rack and shaft gear? Looking for some advice.Thanks

The two different transmissions for DD washers are identical, you can put the ND trans in but it will not spin unless you stop and start the washer after in goes into drain and spin. If you can't get the SD transmission you can use the NDT by removing the cover and taking out the ND parts and then it will go directly into spin when the motor reverses.

 

Your washer was built between 1983 and 1985, the serial# will tell us exactly when it was built.

The clunking during agitation on the old transmission are worn splutch teeth on the agitator shaft, not worn gears, this wear in the splutch area will not hurt anything.

What are splutch teeth? Is that the agitator gear and gear rack?

Your Washer was built the 21st week of 1985. You would need to replace the agitator shaft assembly [ key #9 ] to reduce the clunking during agitation.

Do you know what type and how much grease to apply to the clutches(shoes)?
I caught a couple videos on people applying grease to them.Thanks

Ok. So anyways the washer has been good up until last fall when the timer stopped working to change to drain cycle. Found a used timer on ebay, and did work. I now need to replace the spin gear again as it has worn the teeth out again. No biggie it lasted for over 6 years. I ran across an article that was calling these 2 speed washers as , "Shredmores". As they say the high speed agitation is to fast, and hurts cloths. My actual question is about the transmission 389245 direct into spin drain. I ran across it on the whirlpool web site. I have seen on and also spoke to them on the phone. It is on back order, but will be available. So they said. They said sometimes when there is demand they remake parts that were discontinued. Is there any truth to that? The reason I ask because I was considering a trans replacement instead of going inside it again. I was never able to completely get rid of that knock noise I have. I did install a new whirlpool agitator shaft also in 2016, but still knocked. Actually is actually sticks for a few seconds before the agitator shaft gear will unlock and start agitating. Been doing that since I replaced it, of course it could be defective as I bought it on ebay in 2016, and may have been scammed on that piece. Under no conditions do I want to replace this machine as I would only buy a speed queen, But this old one my wife loves. It was my grandmothers. I have a not as old direct drive, neutral drain, Three speed washer I picked a few years ago, and believe it just needs the dog ears. Could I disassemble that trans and transfer my parts into for the direct into spin set up? The agitator shaft would be different, or no ? I want to say I am glad to here from you. Non-neutral drain, direct, drive transmissions

Hi Eric, glad you’re getting some use out of this washer.

I have no idea where the whirlpool will actually supply neutral drain transmissions again. I can’t imagine there’s much demand for them. At this point your best bet might be to buy a new transmission and take the neutral components out of it reseal it and put it in your washer.

I’ve never really heard one of these direct drive washer’s it doesn’t have some clunk in the transmission I think that’s pretty normal for them. I wouldn’t worry about it.
