I did not know SQ made WWs for Sears. I thought they were all WP. I knew SQ built them for MW and Amana but this is news to me. Very interesting find. My guess would be that WP had stopped making WWs at this time and Sears had to source them from someone else.

Sears Had No Choice
Cannot recall at the moment exact year, but Whirlpool ceased making wringer washers by 1970s. Only big names left in that game were Speed Queen and Maytag. The latter was not going to do private label for Sears. That just left SQ who as you mention were already doing private label wringer washers for others.
