Kevin's 1964 Starfire

Not up to the level of Rick's Olds, but a fun car just the same!

This is the 1964 Starfire. They made this into a larger car than the earlier Starfires, but they kept the sporting appeal. Same 394 Ultra High Compression engine.

This only has 88K original miles. It had the drivers and rear seat redone, but instead of leather, the guy before redid it in vinyl, with cushion that is way too spongy. This will be replaced. Fortunately, the passenger's is still in its original leather, so it can easily be duplicated.

I have the original, heavy Olds hubcaps, but have them in storage and have these cheapies just to drive around. Car features include:

Full power windows, including wing windows, vacuum trunk release, Safety Sentinel, Wonder Bar Radio with foot selector, factory air (Frigidaire), console with shifter, console tach, ps, pb, and electric antenna.

Nice ride! A friend of mine had a 64 Olds Dynamic 88,that he had it seems forever. I don't know if he still has it or not.Now that was a sled!

Back in the day, there was a huge turntable in the lobby of the Atlanta (Hartsfield) Airport (the "jetport" opened in 1961) where Oldsmobile displayed their hottest wares------- which happened to be the Starfire's. And they were HOT!!!!!!

The Starfire's held their spot on that turntable untill the Toronado's bumped them off of it in 1966.

There was nothing quite like those cars before or since. Oh, how I miss them. The sounds, the smell, the seemingly endless power---------. You have a WONDERFUL piece of automotive history!

FYI, if you accessorizing to the Nth degreem you could also get Twilight Sentinel, Guidematic, Door edge guards, fuel door filler guard, Cruise Control.

The radio was a dilemam since one had to choose between what they thought was more "Deluxe", the Wonder Bar signal Seeking radio, or the new-for-1963 AM-FM radio.

God, those cars are SCAREY fast!

So is that like the Seek button, it finds the next station?

My dad's 1978 Cadillac had an AM/FM radio with that metal bar, the little slider which I guess adjusts sensitivity, plus a Scan button. It worked well in finding AM and FM stations. In the late 70s, you could get Caddy's and Lincolns with built-in CB radios and 8 tracks as well.

Now, Bri's dad's escalade has XM radio/GPS navigation and a back seat DVD player with wireless headphones. Bri and I watched 50 First Dates last night cruising in the new pimp ride.

Wonder Bar

Yes, the Wonder Bar will seek you to the next AM station that has a strong enough signal. We had one in the family's original Pontiac Safari (1961). That one had a little red tab under the Wonder Bar that you could move to select that level of sensitivity.

The one in the Olds also has a foot switch, that kind of looks like a dimmer switch, that activates it too.

My mom's Cadillac has the similar setup you mentioned. In addition to that, it does one other trick thing. When you change from FM to AM, it rotates in a different faceplate for channel selection!

Great car Kevin, love the console. Now you guys are giving me the itch!!! What's so neat about the big old cars is that when you're standing outside and peeking in you can actually see the brake and gas pedals. Oh how I wished I still had my 75 Electra coupe when I see what people are asking for 4 drs.
BTW the other day when I was at the casino there was a 68 Olds 98 2dr in the parking lot with the 4 sale sign on the window, no price shown, but appeared in good to excellent condition. I should have wrote down the number and called them to ask what they wanted for it
