In fact it's really good. Bought a 28 lbs tub from Costco at very reasonable cost. It doesn't have an ingredients list on the tub and I am assuming that it is phosphate free, but it cleans very well. Whilst washing it develops a slight ammonia smell, it is very low sudsing and rinses out good. Laundry is left smelling fresh and clean with only the slightest hint of a scent. Interestingly, the powder smells quite strong in the container, but once it hits the water the scent subsides to a hint.

Regular stain/dirt removal is good without extra additives like oxygen bleach, but I have had to use bleach on some very heavily stained whites.

Have used it for general cleaning also, as per recommendation on tub. Washed down walls and floors in recreation area with good results.

Assuming that the Kirkland detergent formula is the same for all geographic locations, I'd like to hear from others who have tried it.

So far I am happy to give it my tick of approval.

Its a bit too strong for black clothes...

I've noticed that too, but being conservative with dosing I put in less than the recommended amount and haven't found fading too much of a problem and clothes still come out clean. If coloreds and darks are very dirty some oxygen bleach powder gets thrown in with the detergent as well. Though, mostly using the detergent on its own delivers very satisfactory results.

On the packaging it does state that it is a commercial grade product, which would probably make it more caustic than regular domestic laundry detergent.

For delicate stuff I use Ivory Snow, Woolite or Softly and very occasionally Lux soap flakes.

I have found the Costco powdered detergents to be too high sudsing for regular front loader usage.

For a time I was using their Free and Clear and Environmentally Sensitive liquid detergents for bath towels and delicates, but have since switched to the Chorox Green Works liquid, which has a more pleasant aroma and leaves a softer finish.

This is pretty much the same detergent I use.

I do notice that it does make a lot of suds in a front loader, but after a few minutes of washing, those suds tend to die down quickly. At least from my POV.

In my top loader, I noticed it really didn't make any suds at all, which made me wonder if it was actually doing any cleaning.

I guess my attitude is, it works, but it doesn't really have much of a scent. Guess that's to be expected from using commercial grade laundry detergent.
