I have an older model KitchenAid Suberba dishwasher that was in the house when I bought it 9 years ago. This was a wonderful machine but about 6 months ago it got a mind of its own and would start up by its self sometimes when the door was latched. Other than this it still performed and ran very quitely. I was told that it may be an electrical problem and that it wasn't worth trying to fix and could cause a fire. I bought a new LG and have had it replaced twice due to poor performance. Overall its a piece of crap and I want my old KitchenAid back in the kitchen. I am so glad that I didn't let it go with they brought the new one. Does anyone know what the problem could be with something like this and would it be an easy fix?

May need a new mother board....but did you try unplugging it and plug it back in after a few hours...sometimes help it reset...mine would do that also....light up and come on by itself

Hello Lyle,

One of the issues with this dishwasher's pad buttons is that they can get stuck. I have one of these that will do the same thing at times. On mine it is the "Start" button that will get stuck. If you press on the start button you will hear a click. Or you should. Usually if you don't hear it click it is stuck in. Press the button rapidly. When I would do this it would start to "click" again and I knew that it was "unstuck". See if that works.
If it is the board I can help you with that also. I have a spare that I took off a working KA, same model.

If you don't want to spend alot of money or time taking it apart
And
If you have a switch above the counter, on the wall (as is required for safety purposes in some areas),
you could simply turn it off when no in use. If you don't have a switch, simply install one in convenient area.
Or
just, don't latch it when not washing.

Nice looking machine.
I estimate about 1999. One of the first Whirlpool made KAs.
