Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

It looks like the "pump" stopped working. It is making noise but not filling with water could be a simple fix.

Greetings, Bart.  The pump mechanism does not fill it with water.  The machine's inlet valve opens when the timer calls for a fill.  Water flows in via plumbing pressure from the city mains or private water well, whichever you have supplying water to your house.  Fills are timed, probably 2 minutes more or less.

The pump functions separately to circulate/spray the water that has filled in, or drains it out at the appropriate times after the various wash and rinse periods.

No fill is a problem with the inlet valve not functioning, not a problem with the pump.  The inlet valve may have gone bad or there's a problem with a wire on/to it.  Or a problem with the timer.  Or a problem with the overfill float but that's less likely.

Has there been any leaking from the rust spot in your 4th and 5th photos when the machine was working?

Hi Glenn,

Yes, there was a very small leak from the bottom of the rust spot when machine was working. I took the sprayer assembly out to take a look at the pin hole rust spot and after assembling it back, the machine no longer fills with water.

Thank you for helping diagnose this issue but I posted this here to see if anyone is interested in this dishwasher.

I tested again and it does fill with water. I had it on “dry” cycle. The only issue is the pinhole leak in the bottom of the tube.

I have it!

Thank you to the owner for reaching out to me. The machine is in flawless condition other than the tiny rust hole at the base of the machine, I can only assume there was some sort of manufacture defect or chip in the enamel that left part of the metal exposed near the pump. What would be the most optimal way to repair this? RTV sealant would be simple but I don’t know if that would work as well as other options. Let me know how this is normally rectified. I may also have another machine with a good tub that I don’t mind swapping parts from this into.

I have a KDC-20

So after checking through the machines I have already, I also have a KDC 20 that is in OK condition but nothing special, and it has a perfect tub. That may be the perfect option to get the KDS 20 back into perfect condition.

Tub swap

I was simply contemplating the idea of taking a tub that has no rust issues and putting all of the KDS parts onto that tub. It wouldn’t be a part out per se as much as it would be A tub replacement. But I agree that fixing the existing tub hole would be a much simpler option.
