Just picked this up locally.

I read an old forum post - does the "Kitchenaid Hobart Mfg" on the identification plate (see pics) mean it's a late 70's model K45?

I believe this mixer is older. The rim of the bowl does not appear to be rolled, but flares out flat. The beater, if original, being coated, is another clue. My estimate is early 1970s. Is the color of the white that has "yellowed" a bit? Is the electric plug 2 or 3 pronged? In the mid to late 1970s, KitchenAid changed the governor design and created the "SS" series which is still being made today, called KitchenAid "Classic". If the speed control ever breaks, the parts are no longer available. The parts are not expensive. It can be converted into an "SS" mixer and last for many years if not abused.

The AC cord plug is 2-pronged.

It's consistently yellow so I think the color is original.

I think your mixer dates back to the last of the non-solid state models, so it's likely from the '70s.  The logo on the band is the current style that's still used by KitchenAid.  I don't think there's an exact date or year that has been identified for when the bowl rim changed from the flat type (which tends to scratch the paint off where it tends to scrape the stand) to the rolled rim.  I put a rolled rim bowl on my K45 to eliminate the potential for scratching up the stand where I touched it up.
