Kitchen Aid Washer PROBLEM

So today I hooked up this Kitchen Aid washer which I bought for $40.00 last summer from an excellent home. Well I hooked it up started a small load of wash and all was going well. It got quiet .. I went down to put in fabric softener and I smelled burnt wires heard a very light humming noise. It will not do anything ?? What age is this washer and what could be wrong ?

Probably early/mid 1990s.  A burnt wire odor probably means a burned wire.  Had that happen to a DD machine couple years ago.  The motor capacitor went bad, motor couldn't start and overheated/burned two wires in the process (low speed and the jumper from the capacitor to the motor start switch).

Fairly simple fix in my case ... replace the capacitor and fix the wires.  The capacitor/jumper wire is a straight-forward spade connector.  Low speed a tad more challenging since it's a very small connector that mounts into the motor harness block.  I found the same size spade connector at the local home improvement, cut back the burned part and attached the new connector. Was able to pull the existing connector out of the harness block and the new terminal fits through the slot in the block to plug to the motor.

Could be a broken motor coupler but the motor would run in that case (and the machine would drain if not agitate and spin).

did you check if its not the motor thats simply burn

did you check if its not the washer motor that simply burn reminds me of my old top load washer inglis superbII direct drive topload motor burn and when I had set the timer to drain and spin there was only a buzzing sound had to empty the washer by hand?
