Noticing the loading on the bottom rack of the center photo...plates and bowls facing the right...growing up with a GE, I always loaded the bottom rack facing the center...did the bowls on the far right facing the dishwasher wall come clean in a KitchenAid?

Kitchen Aid has because of the Hydro Wash wash arm a feature that they call "load as you like" the spray comes out of all different angles on the wash arm which covers both sides of the dishes equally. I grew up with a KDS17A in my parents house and I remember my Mom loading the dishwasher however the dishes fit and they always came out clean. We now have in our home a Kitchen Aid EQ dishwasher it is about 10 years old and again, it has the Hydro Wash 4 way wash arm and my kids load this machine anyway they see fit and the results are great.

I had the KDD 67 that was a step down from the Regency front load portable that is pictured here. Those bowls facing the walls of the tank would never come clean loaded like that and I know that from experience. Everything that has a soiled surface needs to be facing in towards the center of the rack. I did not rinse, just scraped the dishes and in they went. This dishwasher did not have a water heater element to boost or add additional water heating so one did rely on having 140F water right at the faucet.
This one arm wonder did try to wash the entire load, but, the top rack suffered from getting food bits stuck to the very top and sometimes I would just rewash the top rack only. This dishwasher was run every day and when it finally gave up the ghost in 1984 I bought a Maytag WC302 and my mom could not believe the difference in how clean everything got from the Maytag.

No, no--NO! The bowls should not face the wall no matter how great of a brand and machine you get in and with a Kitchen Aid, I'm surprised that it's shown like that just randomly shot contrary to actual use of even a novice...

I always load everything inward, the surfaces holding the food of each and every item will get clean no matter how dirty and something even the first time loader would know, is to face everything wherever the washing action is, and I have a load in my Samsung right now that will stand as the optimum testimony, that no matter what you have and how much you have and how big the load, everything will be clean, nothing will be left dirty if the machine is loaded right...

There has been an ad for a GE dishwasher with similarly arranged tableware. It is hard to believe that better care was not taken.

Loading taboo…

I do commit this loading sin with my Potscrubber. I load my salad bowls facing toward the tank in the upper left hand row. The only reason I do this is if you flipped them around the right away the inner most bowl will touch the items on the saucer shelf, so I’d either have to skip or row or not use the saucer shelf. As a note, my daily dinnerware is vintage Noritake Progressions china so I don’t want them stacked up or bumping into each other in the dishwasher. The Multi Orbit system though allows me to get away with this with no issue. Everything else is loaded the correct way with the soiled surface facing in. Also note that this load only had one salad bowl, so yes I could have found somewhere better for it but usually the entire row is filled.
