Kitchenaid dishwasher I.D. help

I can't tell what year is this Kitchenaid dishwasher.It looks like the one I want true a Hobart but I can't tell the Pic they posted is not the best.I was wondering if somebody in here could help?I want the one that has the Hobart wash system and water heating and that fantastic dryer they had on them.

It sure looks to me like it would still have the Hobart influences for the wash system, but it looks late enough that it might not be Hobart-made.

Would you just look at all of those buttons?

If that's a KUDS22, I want to know where it is!

The KUDS22 was a Whirlpool built machine, however, it has the last of the Hobart wash systems, except it used the square Emerson "gold seal" motor instead of the round Hobart motor. It is an excellent dishwasher. Its successor, the KDS23 series ditched the Hobart wash system completely in favor of the Whirlpool power clean module but with a Hobart-inspired exterior look and interior rack system. The model 24 and 25 KA DW were pure Whirlpool inside and out, and had a stainless interior instead of the traditional KA porcelain enamel, again with the Whirlpool power clean module and 4 way hydrosweep wash arm.

Andrew, I've been told that the 22 series Superba is an exceptionally quiet machine. Would this be due to the Emerson "Gold Seal" motor instead of the Hobart one?

I had the Architect Series 22 series machine. It was very quiet...except for the motor. To me, it made an annoying high pitched whine. It was the only part of the machine you really heard at all. But it washed pretty well, just didn't do all that good a job on pots and pans. To me, those machines always needed a second rinse after the main wash, which they did not have. Too often, it left debris on top of cups on the upper rack as they had done away with the top mounted constant rinse and just had a two level wash.

The machine arrived with a defective motor, so after a month, it had to be replaced. Both motors pretty much sounded the same. I guess maybe it was quieter than previous generation Superbas though.

Thanks Andrew. Of course, other than Nate's latest Frigidaire acquisition, there probably aren't many metal tub machines out there that are louder than my Thermador, although the thundering sounds can be more muffled depending on how it has been loaded. Yesterday's run was actually fairly quiet.

I still prefer the KA's for ease of loading and would like to have a Superba someday.

A Kitchenaid by any other name!

This is an easy one..If the data plate says any model other than a 23 series, it is the Hobart DESIGNED pump system. The 21 and 22 had the same pumps and it made no difference if it was the Hobart built or Emerson motor. The Emerson motors came into the line once the sale of KA was complete since the motors were built by Hobart even if in a Kitchenaid plant. In reality, all the K/A's after the sale were built by ISE so therefore, an Emerson motor would make the most sense.

Now, the 23 series should be called a Whirlpool in a Kitchenaid Tank as that was built with the Power Module pump system. They are NOT forward or backwards interchangeable as the WP pump actually had a smaller diameter and the tank bottom was resized to fit the new pump.

And now that We have used the Superba 21 for a bit over a year, I have to say that the worst thing about them is the lack of multiple rinses after the washes. While the machine cleans well, I sometimes can see some soap film especially on the silverware regardless of brand used.

Our Custom/Imperial 21 was a better washing machine as it had more rinses on it or somehow managed to give 2 of them on the machines I had.

I am just finishing up the KDS18-20-WM5 Frankenaid machine and with that WM 5 washarm in it, man you have to see how it flings all sorts of stuff around in it..even on the top rack!
I may have to put the good old 4 way Hydrosweep back in it to keep some rust on the trailer hitches!

One last thing about the motors and Andrew will also know what I mean.. The Hobart motors with the top and bottom ball bearings were inherently quieter(though never a silent runner) than the Emersons and I hear the whine he speaks about with the motor in the Frankenaid. It is an annoying whine that you can hear above the hurricane sounds the dishwasher itself is making. I may change it out before I take the machine back into the kitchen to replace the Monterrey 21.

Steve, thanks for the detailed information. I know my KUDI21 had at least two rinses after the final wash, but maybe only one between the pre- and main washes.

I wonder what the logic was behind fewer rinses on the later models. On my Thermador, there is no rinse on the "Regular" cycle between pre- and main washes. The only way the machine will provide a rinse after the pre-wash is if the user selects "Heavy Steam" or "Sani Steam" cycles, otherwise the timer just advances through it. On the other hand, it provides three rinses after the main wash, and on the steam cycles it will add heat to the last rinse. I'm still trying to understand some of WK-U's engineering logic.
