Inspection time
Check and see if the cooling fan on the top of the motor is still securely fastened to the motor shaft. These had a tendency to break or crack and would not spin at the same speed as the motor itself. Also, these motors do sometimes have a weird sounding whine to them that does come and go. Since you cleaned out the tank of all its limescale and such, there may be a piece or pieces of scale large enough to be caught by the drain impeller and is making the noise.
Years ago, my Mom's machine was screaming and it turned out to be a small piece of grizzle had worked its way under the drain impeller and was making the noise.
Bad bearings will make a much worse noise but are not that hard to remove and replace. They are readily available at any bearing supply house. If you want to go ahead and do that, contact me and I can walk you thru it.
