What do you think is the problem ?

A wire could have fallen off the inlet solenoid, The line strainer inside the fill solenoid could be plugged,or the guy keeps forgetting to turn the water on after he wheels it up to the sink and connects it.LOL
The first 2 are for real. Maybe the third is true too.

A roll of the dice...

It could be as simple as a spoon or something like that caught under the float, disabling the valve. I love those calls, short and sweet...

Yes, I got it. It is a Custom 21 in Almond. It will fill but only on certain cycles. So I think it is a timer issue rather than the valve.

It will only fill for rinse & hold and you have to hold the timer knob until it starts washing, it drains also. The fan for drying is kind of loud too.

It needs a new paint job it's scratched pretty bad on the sides. I will probably repaint it this spring.

She Runs!!!!!!!!!!!

I took the the front of the door apart cleaned everything I could get at, took the timer out, put everything back together and now it filling, but I had to hold the timer knob in order to get it to fill for the first pre-wash, but it's been filling and draining all on it's own. Anyone have an instruction manual for this baby?

It's a Hobart according to the model number plate. This spring I will paint the sides and have her looking like new!

let's get a picture or two!

If it is a Hobart Custom 21 you may still have the heating element in the sump and not the exposed one that is clipped to the bottom of the tank and you may also have the all metal housing drying unit as well. Another item which will tell it is a Hobart is the heating water indicator on the control panel. The pictures will tell the tale for sure.
As far as the timer not filling on the first fill, I would venture a guess at the fact that the previous user must have been a bit abusive when turning the knob to the cycle they wanted. The timer may still be available so keep your fingers crossed. I have the Whirlpool version and it works by either turning the timer knob to the desired cycle or simply pressing the cycle selection button and letting the timer just advance to the cycle you want. This is much easier on the timer itself.
These did NOT have the rapid advance timers on them which were a later addition as well as the cycle indicator lites instead of the dial.
This machine whether a Hobart or Whirlpool iteration, will wash extremely well and should still give you good long service.
Definitely a good daily driver and not just a collector's item!

I just ran it through a complete cycle. The last couple of rinses didn't seem to fill up with as much water was the previous fills; the swishing sound wasn't as loud. Everything came out nice and clean, with the exception of a Pyrex baking dish that had scalloped corn in it, just one little spot had food left on it. This beast is loud compared to my Whirlpool. Did this model have reversible door panels to change the color?

Steve, I also believe the water heating phase on Hobart machines (with the little orangeish/red idiot light on the control panel) will not circulate water while it's heating, only pause and "dwell" so to speak until the water temp is reached and then it will begin to pump/circulate water. I have friends who just got rid of the Imperial version of this Hobart machine (it had been ridden verry hard and was beginning to rust in the tank) and it didn't circulate the water during the heating pause.

VERY NICE INDEED!!! Ya done good! I do believe this is the portable version of the one BugsyJones recently got and put in his kitchen!!

I don't think there is anything wrong with the dishwasher at all. I ran another cycle today. It filled everytime, but two times with less water; could this be to clean the filter? It doesn't fill enough to spray water but runs for about a minute then drains and refills. I love the adjustable top rack!

I changed the front panels to Harvest Gold, now if I could just find some Harvest Gold paint for the sides and back.

two times with less water

That's exactly what it's supposed to do. It's called a purge. It doesn't sound like it's spraying water on anyting, but it is getting the load wet. My Kenmore Elite does this too between the main wash & final rinse.

I had no problems getting it to fill either, I don't think the previous owners knew how to run it properly, the last time I ran it I pushed the pots & pans cycle and it started right up.

Pots & pans is supposed to do that. Ya might take steve's suggestion and if you use normal, push the button and let the timer manuall advance to that point on the dial and see how it does.
