Hi All!
Does anyone know anything about gas cooktops by KitchenAid? It dates from 1990, model KGCT365T. The problem is that the automatic spark ignition continues to spark for a while, sometimes never shutting off while the burner is lit. This used to happen occasionally when something would boil over, but this would only last for a minute. The sprak module was replaced, but the problem remains. Should the individual igniters be replaced? Any help would be appreciated!

Bobby,
I had a similar experience with a Magic Chef gas range a few years back. We were just sitting down to Thankgiving dinner when one ignitor began sparking as if to light a burner. The range had been in use most of the day. I finally had to pull the range out from the wall far enough to reach behind and unplug it so we could have dinner in peace.
The next day I opened it up. Each burner control had a small switch that actuated the ignitor for that burner. On one the switch casing had broken and energized that ignitor. It was a fairly easy repair.
Yours could be similar. Have you looked at any parts diagrams on Partselect.com or other parts site?
Hope this helps...Bill

All the ignitor switches are wired in series. Does it continue to spark when using one particular burner or anytime any burner is on?
BTW did you ever replace the pump module in the Maytag dishwasher?

The "lite" position on most burners has like a little cam on it that pushes a switch when it's turned to that position. If food and crud gets into the know assemblies, the switch can become stuck. Sometimes too, if a knob on the front of the stove becomes bent or damaged, it will knock the knob shaft off center, and cause the igniter to activate somewhere else along the knob's range

Thanks for all the help, folks. If this helps the dx, all four igniters spark together, no matter what burner is lit. It was like this when new, so I guess it's supposed to do this. The only problem is the igniters will not shut off. Since the spark module has been replaced, it makes sense that one of the igniters could be bad. Is there a sensor in each igniter? The igniters are still available, and I think it would make sense to replace them, one at a time to find the culprit. Any ideas how to change them? The burners are sealed.
