Need help in repairing, was running it this morning on the normal wash cycle, when water was pumping out it started to make a noise that it hasn't before, the water did pump out but I shut it off before the rinse cycle started because the noise just continued and became louder. I need this in easy instructions because my husband would work on it when needed and he passed away so its up to me and my son. I know some of my kids would say to get a new DW but I can't part with it because he always said they don't make DW like this anymore. I was able to put SS panels on the front of it awhile ago so it fits right in with my other appliances.

It sounds like something made its way to the drain impeller. It's pretty common for broken glass to make its way in there, I've never been inside a 18-20 Hobart Kitchenaid dishwasher that didn't have broken glass in the sump.

It's pretty straightforward to dig in there and check. Remove the wash arm (pulls straight up, there's no fastener) and filter. Remove the screws (28) that hold the upper support in place (29). Remove the wash impeller screw (1) and associated hardware (2, 3, 4) (keep it all in order). Remove the wash impeller (5), lower housing (7).  Remove the screws (27) to the cover (26) and remove the cover. Remove the drain top (8) and you should be able to see what's in there. If you find foreign objects in there like glass, inspect the drain impeller (13) for damage. Don't lose the washers/shims above drain impeller (9, 10, 11) they're essential for proper spacing of the wash impeller.

I was gone so tonight was the first time I was able to follow your instructions and take it apart. I did find a piece of plastic, removed that and put everything back together and ran it. Music to my ears. Thank you very much for your picture and instructions.
