Hi, I am new to the forum. We just bought an old house and inherited the above dishwasher. It works great we were cleaning the machine and took the control panel apart to get grease off. Long story short one wire came loose and I cannot locate the wiring diagram (seems to be missing) Is there anyone who can suggest a place to contact for service manuals, etc for this nice old machine? Thanks in advance.

Can you take and post a picture of the control panel and disconnected wire? I have the same dishwasher and if no one has a wiring diagram (I don't) I could take my control panel apart and see where the wire is connected on mine that is loose on yours. Just an idea.
Here is a pic of mine.

Can you check the end of the wire for a number or letter? Sometimes that gives it away. I just got a wiring diagram from another member but it is in pdf format and that cant be reproduced here. I can email it to you. It is from a 22 series but should be just about the same as yours. Maybe that will help

OK-let me apologize for the 1 year delay
The kitchen had to be gutted and remodeled
I managed to convince the wife to save the kitchenaid 21 dishwasher
it sat in garage disconnected for quite some time.
It got reinstalled this week and powers up but has only one letter visible on the screen "L"
holding cancel button used to work and cause it to reset itself
If anyone can help It would be greatly appreciated

Loose wire?
So did you get the loose wire reconnected to where it was supposed to be?
There is no code L for anything on this dishwasher.
The only codes you would see would be:
PF= Power Failure
CA= Cancel
dO= Door Open
Otherwise the display shows the minutes counting down as the cycle progresses.
I am hoping nothing got damaged with the control board when you were cleaning the panel as any parts for the electronic timer or computer display are no longer available.

It's hard to know what it could be but I would see if you can find any loose wire connections inside. There should be NO wires hanging inside not connected to something.
If you find something and can't tell where it is supposed to go, take a picture and post it here and I can direct you from there.
It is definitely worth fixing if it's something simple as you have a rare dishwasher model that is not often found. It will clean faster and better than almost all new dishwashers.

magnetic door switch
The switch that is activated by the door handle is a reed switch that is closed when the handle is locked. The latch has a lever attached to it on the right sidee that has a small magnet on it that closes the reed switch to tell the controller that the door is at least latched and should eliminate the "dO" if that is working. Check to make sure that all of that is intact and go from there.

your tip on the reed switch solved the problem
the angle was such that the plastic piece that depresses the switch via the bent metal wasnt displacing it enough to activate the reed switch -- we bent the metal contact a little to contact the switch easier and now it works perfectly!

Isn't there a wiring diagram glued to the inside of the door? That was where they always put them. Also, if you haven't taken the door panel off, please do so because the diagram should be there and also a technician troubleshooting guide which should also have a diagram on it. Those wires have to go somewhere!

Since there is a connector on the wires, look for another connector like it with no wires attached.

I don't remember this connector, but it may be just a test point, if the machine works and no matching connector is around I would not worry about it.

have to assume it wasn't connected because that is the type connector that would have to be intentionally disconnected. Unless someone before me worked on it an forgot to reconnect it. A wiring diagram would nail it but have not found one in this machine. Preliminary runs indicate the unit is working fine although it has yet to pass my wifes approval after a pasta meal. Thanks to everyone, great forum. Now if I could just find an old maytag toploader like grandpa had....

So long as a quality detergent is used, I bet it will pass her most critical judgment.
P.S.: Where in Chattanooga are you? I used to live on East Fourth, close to The Battery. I was there for a bit over two years on a job transfer. Very nice town in many ways. At the time, the Tivoli downtown used to have a classic movie matinee on Saturdays, which was huge fun; one of those showings was the only time I've ever seen 1933's Grand Hotel on the big screen. At that time, the Brass Register was open in Fountain Square, right around the corner from me; I used to dote on Sunday brunch there.

Very good to hear about you finding the problem. As long as you use a good quality dishwasher detergent (no bargain brands) you should have no problems with this machine.
