As many of you know I was working on restoring a 1957 KD-12 KitchenAid as well as "pimping" the machine with a viewing window and a lighted interior. The machine is all restored, modifications done and a fresh coat of pink paint is on the machine.

Introducing my one of a kind model KD-12GWSP (G=Glass W=Window S=Screaming P=Pink)!

The interior of the dishwasher is lit using two cool florescent bulbs mounted on the outside of the machine with a small glass window cut and sealed on the side of the machine to allow the light to shine in. The lights automatically light whenever the machine is operating...

To make a frame for the window I cut pieces of aluminum that I bought at Ace hardware. A frame was needed because of the space between the outer door and inner door. The glass window is mounted and sealed to the inner door...

Great job Robert! Very creative, a one of a kind vintage dishwasher. Fun to watch too. Love the hot pink!! So 1970's... (Ducking and running!!)

Now this might be a reason why windows are not normally installed in dishwashers. I just loaded the machine and really it could have waited until tomorrow when we had more stuff before I ran it, the left over protein shake running down the window might not be too pretty to look at, LOL. But I LOVE IT!

Oh and I removed the extra pump I installed for testing and turned this machine back into its original status of a gravity drain machine. I simply ran a washer drain hose through the floor down into the basement and into one of my 15 or so standpipes for draining the washers...

Next!

I need to find a KD-12 now and send it out to be "Robertized." This is just so much fun. Please show where the light windows are inside. Also, can you turn on the lights when the dishwasher is not running?

Great, interesting, and I want one too,
Dave

Awesome!

Another project comeplete, well done Robert! I love the window, aside from the fact it allows access to the elusive "forbidden cycle", it looks FACTORY. I can't wait to see this!

Gorgeous piece of work there, Robert.

Is that pink a standard color or custom mix? If it's standard, do you remember its name?

Robert that is just beautiful!! It looks great in your kitchen! I can't wait to see this machine in person!!!

F-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c-!

Wow, well Done -- Love it! When you mentioned you put 2 lights in my initial thought was one on each side, but correct me if I'm wrong, they look to be on the same side, mounted high and lower.

I could sit there for an hour and watch that show!

Love the hot pink!! So 1970's... (Ducking and running!!)
You better run Rick LOL ;)

Also, can you turn on the lights when the dishwasher is not running?
Yup, if you leave the door unlatched and click down the start switch the light will come on without the dishwasher running.

Is that pink a standard color or custom mix?
Its a standard gloss pink from Home Depot.

correct me if I'm wrong, they look to be on the same side, mounted high and lower.
Yup the lights are on the right side of the dishwasher one on top of the other. It would have been great to do one on each side, but on the left side is the fill flume and vacuum breaker assembly so the left side was out.

Congrats~

On a job well done Robert! Your talent and skill never ceases to amaze me...Just lovely!
