I recently bought a Kitchenaid KDC21A dishwasher from someone doing a remodel. I had had one in the past and liked it better than the newer Kitchenaid dishwasher I had used for the past ten years. I was told it worked, but when I got it home, it wouldn't do anything. I found this site and read what stevet wrote to someone with a similar problem about the little tab on the upper corner of the tub that activates the door interlock. I looked tonight and there wasn't one on the machine I had. Using his instructions, we figured out that was why it wasn't working. I haven't tried rigging up the 6/32 screw yet, but that's the next step since I don't have the part. I am also missing the brackets and whatever else held the machine to the underside of the countertop. Can someone tell me what works best to replace those connectors?

For substitute brackets the first thing that comes to mind is plumber's tape or something similar.  I don't recall what type of screw is required to fasten the bracket to the dishwasher frame, but it's probably a fairly short self-tapping or sheet metal type.

Use something simple

You can mount the machine to the cabinet by using regular "L" brackets and self tapping screws that are pretty much the same size as the holes in the machine. They will be in the upper corners and then attach them to the counter. If you want the oem brackets, let me know and I will check the part numbers and see if we can't get them for you. Good Luck, The machine screw trick works well. If you can get a little rubber cap for the end of the bolt, that would be even better.Makes for a smoother looking install!
