Energy save IV/Imperial. Came with the house and I have been proudly running it the last 9 years. Seems to be a good machine. I have been deep into it and made several repairs. the other day it started smoking from under the machine. Believe it was electrical, shut it down, waited till the smoke cleared and inspected. Found nothing, ran 3 cycles since with no problems. I mainly want to know if anyone has a shop manual, or knows the timer cycles? It was within the first 10 minutes of the cycle and I am trying to figure out what was running. The diswasher was silent when this happened, I figure maybe the preheat cycle however the element seems to be working fine. Thoughts?

Hi, the most common reason this machine will smoke is the water heater was engaged without being covered with water. Are you sure the smoke didn’t originate from within the dishwasher tank?

If something electrical burned underneath, you should be able to smell it somewhere or it wasn’t very serious. I would keep an eye on the machine and keep using it.

If you take the outer door panel off there’s a cycle chart for the timer and wiring diagram on the inside of the upper door.

I have an electrical background so I'm pretty comfortable with it and there's definitely nothing burnt underneath. I'm also confident it did not come from inside the tank. My main concern right now is something up with the motor but like I said it's been fine for several cycles.

Hi, the main motor certainly could’ve put out some smoke sometimes a small part of the winding shorts in a motor like this and then it goes on working for a long time, certainly not a good sign, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much if it fails it fails and you’ll just have to find another motor or another dishwasher.
