KitchenAid KDS 20 manuals?

I have a modern Kenmore UltraWash QuietGuard Deluxe 665.13859K602 piece of junk dishwasher....looks nice, but it runs for 2-3hrs when it runs correctly. It malfunctions regularly, I have replaced the main board twice, and I am tired of it.
I came across a KA KDS 20 that was at my parents house in storage for 18yrs and thought I would give it a try. I went to install it today and found that the fill valve had split and shot water all over when the machine was turned on. I tried finding a direct replacement and have yet to find one with two solenoids but only the one solenoid which I located at Sears....are these new replacements alright to use? I read a thread here that you have the original style available???
Also, once I get this running, I am curious to know which cycle is the "normal cycle" since there is no button for normal cycle. Can some one explain to me what each of the cycles do? Pots and Pans, Heavy Wash, Sani cycle, etc.
This machine looks to be in great shape and I can wait to get this up and running and take my modern machine and part with it. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

I bet the panel has Soak'n'Scrub/Pots'n'Pans, Heavy Wash, Low Energy, and Sani Wash as well as cancel/Drain, Rinse & Hold, and Energy Saver Dry. Pots & Pansa is obviously what it says. Heavy Wash is most likely what is the equivalent of Normal Wash. Low Energy is the equivalency of Light/china. That cycle label was used as the "defacto regular" to meet energy conscious consumers desires at the time. Sani Wash simply adds the final rinse temperature to be either 180 degrees or 155 degrees. Soak'n'Scrub ends up with 3 detergent washes (the two hidden doors on the dispenser cup slid closed as well as the 3rd opened indentation on the dispener once those two little doors are slid closed. The first wash is a series of washews (water circulation and puases (soaks). during this time the heater is on heating the water. It's about a 20 minute to 30 minute phase. (I believe on the 18 series it was up to 40 minutes long). Also bear in mind there are a couple of pauses during the Heavy Wash where the water is heated (the machine is just sitting there and should have the heating light indicator on). Low Energy Heats the water once right before the main wash phase. Rinse & Hold is a one-wash prewash. My suggestion is to try Low Energy and see if it gives you the rseults you want. If not, move up to Heavy Wash. Those are the main highlights. I may have missed a couple of nuances. I had friends that had one of the early KDI20 machines. It paused to heat the water for the first wash in Soak'n'Scrub plus two other tiems. For the regular cycle it heated for the first prewash and main wash. For Low Energy it heated only for the main wash after an initial prewash.

also, see thread 32321 KitchenAid Superba 21 Monteray. I bet it's similar looking for the button arrangement except the 21 uses Normal for your heavy Wash and Ligh/China for your Low Energy.

Yes.

Here's original idea Hobart had about dual solenoid valves: If the main solenoid failed to close (or completely close), the second one would, preventing a potential flood. It's pretty rare for this to ever occur which is why most, if not all manufactures today, use a single solenoid valve.

Be careful of Sears Price Parts

There is a Sears Repair Center literally right down the street from me. I called them to see if they had a set of Belts for the 806 Maytag. They wanted $68.00 for a set of Belts. I called this guy off Cape and he was $39.00.

I am pretty sure I have an extra Fill Solenoid. If you need it e-mail me and we'll figure it out. I'm going to look right now.

The KDS 20 as I always say "Will scrub the rust off a trailer hitch". In my own opinion The KDS 18,19 and 20 were the best Hobart Machines ever made. Noisey...Yup, but I can't think of a time where I ever opened the machine and was disappointed.

SINGLE INLET VALVE

Part # 417000 is the correct valve to use this valve can be adapted to almost any non tall tub dishwasher, we buy them by the case dealer cost is around $15 if you have any friends in the business that can get one for you. The valve comes with instructions for adapting the wiring to the single solenoid valve. Only KA, MT and a few TD dishwashers ever used the dual valves it was a good idea in theory but in reality it just caused us to replace twice as many inlet valves as they had about twice the failure rate.

Pictures of the machine, control panel, solenoid, tub, etc. would not only increase the number of helpful responses you'd get, but for us voyeurs, would be appreciated.

Thanks all for your very helpful hints, tips, and knowledge! I hope to get this up and running within a few weeks and at that time, I will post pics. (With a newborn getting things done around here takes a little longer.....)
Thanks so much for explaining the cycles and single vs. double solenoid fill valves. Once I replace the fill valve, I will give it another go and see what happens.

Bob thanks for posting this manuel as many might remember I have one of these in my kitchen that actually still works. As far as I can tell it may be the last surviving one, most of the ones we saw had control problems sooner or later and the parts were either too expensive or NLA. We converted a few to mechanical controls by transplanting a door assembly from a KUDS-20 when the machine was still in good shape. But it was neat to see the manual as I don't think I ever had the actual manuel Thanks John.
