Kitchenaid mixers

My over 30 years old made in UK Kenwood mixer packed up 2 weeks ago and wondered if anyone had the newer more modern Kenwood chef models? How are they in comparison to the older models? It's either a Kenwood or Kitchenaid I am going to buy.

I think one advantage with Kenwood is that it would be a little less bulky.  IIRC, mixer expert Kelly liked the Kenwoods.

 

Today's KitchenAids are louder than the old Hobart-made ones, and you would maybe want to buy yourself an after-market flat beater blade with integrated bowl scraper.  I feel the tilt-head models are easier to use, but that's just my preference.

I have

A bunch of both, I have a Kenwood from the 50s several from the 60s 70s and 80s and all but two or 3 of every Kitchen Aid made from 1919 thru 1980 They are all good, the Kenwoods are somewhat more powerful I think.

Hi Ben,

I've got a Cooking Chef from right after they started being made in PRC. I've had no issues with the mixing function, but I finally gave up on the cooking component after it was repaired for the third time. It is a traditional Kenwood underneath, just made in China.

I've been curious about this as well, they've obviously standardised the design with Delonghi, now that the front PTO has changed, I'm not sure whether the new machines are essentially the old kenwood underneath with a new PTO or if its a cheap design in an expensive metal case. You can get an adaptor to use your slow speed outlet attachments from the late 700 series onwards.

For what it is worth......................

Mary Berry loves the KitchenAid mixer.

I have a 30 year old Classic, and I have made countless batches of cookies, cakes, and double loaves of bread with it.

However, if you have many attachments, it might make financial sense to have your Kenwood repaaired.

I have a Chef from 2006 which is fine, very much the same as the old models and like them all very noisy. Works fine though. Kitchenaids come in a wide variety of colours which I like although they have not got a Which Best Buy but that may because they are rather more expensive than the competition.

The Which top 5 are:
Sage The Bakery Boss BEM825BALUK 82%
Kenwood kMix KMX754WH 82% - this does better than the "traditional" Chef
Bosch MUM9G32S00 OptiMUM Kitchen Machine 74%
Kenwood Chef XL 73% - This is teh latest iteration of the traditional Chef
Cuisinart Precision Stand Mixer SM50U 73%

I see John Lewis have a couple of Kenwood mixers in their Easter sale and, if you can wait a couple of months, the July sale is not that far off and they may have individual machines on sale in store. If you want to stick with vintage, if you keep your eyes on ebay the occassional NIB Chef also comes up, hard to believe as that is that someone would spend so much money on a mixer and not use it.

There are loads of new kMix on ebay too, including a slightly used one on the link which looks like good value

@vacbear58 Thanks very much for the links. Have contacted for Kenwood repair centre and will await to hear from them. My mixer is very ancient but if it can be repaired will be better than forking out over £280 for a new one. Have attached a picture of my model.

My Kenwood chef is a A701A model 450 watts.

I am pretty sure Mart Berry wouldn't use rubbish appliances so if Kitchenaid are good for her then I'm sure they must be reliable which is reassuring.

I did look at food processors but one doesn't normally make cakes in one of those do they.
