Kitchenaid superba kds15g help with use

Hello everyone,
I have a kitchenaid superba by hobart model kds15g at home, it was my mother in law’s but unfortunately I never got to know her and my husband knows nothing about how to use it or if it works, qe currently use it for storing dishes and stuff but I would like to use it, I know it can run since sometimes we accidentally push a button and it starts making noises however the buttons are not very legible anymore and I have no idea where to start and I don’t want to make a mess. It is important to say we do not have hot water in the kitchen so I am not sure if this is something needed for the washing machine to run. Thanks in advance for any advise!

It might work, what condition is the inside in?

 

The DW will run with cold water but it will not wash dishes worth a darn with cold water, Its needs with modern detergents at least 120F water and hotter up to 140F is better.

 

Take all the stored stuff out and close and latch the door and try running it through the rinse&hold cycle by pushing the left button and see what happens, stick around and see what happens, you might want to have a couple of old bath towels handy in case it leaks.

 

If that is successful fix your hot water supply problem and load the machine with at least some dirty dishes, fill both detergent cups at least 1/2 full close the cover and post Full Cycle and see haw it does.

I have the same machine in white. I assume the "g" in the model number is for wood grain. I gotta say these machines are practically bullet proof. I bought mine locally pretty cheap about 6 years ago, and other than a non-functioning soap cup, it has been a great dishwasher. John L is probably the best person to guide you in getting it up and running. Best of luck. Ron

The buttons from left to right are:

Rinse Hold - a short rinse of a partial load (such as breakfast or lunch dishware) to be run later on a Full Cycle after accumulating more dishes; intended to be run without detergent

Utility Utensil - full wash and rinse with a shortened dry period to help avoid drying-on residual soil on pots and pans

Full Cycle - full double wash and three rinses with dry

Sani Cycle - same as Full Cycle but the final rinse is heated to 180°F

Maintenance?

Question for the pros. What, if any, maintenance is recommended for these vintage KD machines? I don't want to jinx my KDS-15, because it works great, but other than wiping it down after each use, is there any periodic maintenance needed to improve longevity? Ron

Don't prerinse dishes!! The detergent needs something to work on,or it will attack the racks!!

This was without a doubt the best, most reliable dishwasher I ever owned. And I didn't pre rinse anything.
