Sorry, I snagged it mysel!

I just could not resist it!
This will be the first machine I have ever paid for! Got him down to 25 bucks and I will pick it up. Says it is in good condition..as long as the control panel looks good I could really care less how the rest of it is! Got enough donor machines anyway!
It happens to be a KDM-21 Monterrey model same as the Superba!

Nice find. I'm going to run the KD2-P tonight. Got to get alot of use out of that drain valve before it rusts. Thanks again. Keep your eye out for a "Electra" or something good for YouCrate. LOL Eddie.
 
Congratulations Steve

What are your plans for the control panel ? Fix another machine ? Build out one of your donor machines ?

Where will the resulting machine go ?

Ed, you know full well that the drain valve will probably outlast you and I on your KDP-2. As always, use them all in good health. I have to get up there to sample some of the huge meals you seem to be cooking all the time to get your machines loaded up so much.

Mark, I am hoping to use the complete machine as is. If it turns out to be in great condition, I will probably just swap it with the KDS20 I have now. Like I said, if the control panel is good, I may just pull the door and motor and all the wiring and throw it on to the 20 tank like I have been doing all these years. We have ceramic tile from the kitchen to the garage and I hate to scrape it anywhere it may have to go. I usually place cardboard under the machine and slide it out but those older units like the 20 weigh well in excess of 125 lbs so they dont slide easily.

I will let you all know what the story is when I get back from AZ next week and pick it up on my way home form the Jacksonville airport.

Meanwhile how are you doing with your parting out sales?

Piece by piece

I contacted the seller and made an offer on only the dishwasher and he took it so I am taking the machine. I have no current need for a new wall oven though I will check it out if I have a chance and I don't need the range top as I have a Downdraft unit now and it is white!

Andrew, that Monterrey would look great in the new kitchen! The understated elegance of the black control panel would look great with your black panels too! Your Selectra is slick but the 21 has that classic look to it. We will see when I get it home what the story is! 'Til then, we both have to sit on pins and needles!
 
Steve - The Monterrey was a Superba, right? Do you know what the cycle sequence was? Mostly, how long was the main wash on it? Inquiring minds want to know! And did it have 2 rinses? Yes, it would look fabulous in my new kitchen!! It does have that classic KA style, with a more contemporary flair.
 
Cycles and Cycles!

Andrew, the Monterrey and Superba were the same machines with slightly different styling to them.
The cycle chart looks like this for Normal Full cycle:
Prewash w heat(delayed to 140 Deg. and det 7 minutes
Drain
Purge fill
Drain
Fill for rinse 3 minutes
Drain
Fill 2nd wash w heat/ det 6 minutes
Drain
Purge Fill
Drain
Fill for rinse looks like 6-7 minute

then drain, dwell, drain and dry
Now the service manual states after rinses not a single rinse so I would hope it would somehow manage to get a second rinse in there. The user manual states the same thing about multiple after rinses!
But it could be one. Someone who has a 21 Superba will need to verify it for me. I dont recall if my aunt with the Monterrey or my Uncle with the Superba had multiple rinses.

I am sure someone will tell us!
 
Steve - that's very similar to the 22 Superba, or the same, really. Does Soak and Scrub just add the heated pre-wash cycle? I think that washes for 6 minutes also.

I'm finding that I'm getting very good results with the 22 using Finish/Electrasol powder, rather than an enzyme detergent. Even pots and pans are substantially cleaner, which is what I expected from this machine. I guess the cycle times really are too short for an enzyme detergent to work effectively?
 
Well, it is in the garage !

I got the machine last week on my way back from the Jax Airport and it is actually in decent shape but needs a good deliming and cleaning. I found the jet dry dispenser cap molded to the sump in a lime deposit so the door is stained under the disopenser and the dispenser is probably trash. I will look it over and run it this weekend and update you all on it.
I will post these pics as the befores and hopefully the afters will be alot better!

even the racks are dirty but absolutely pristine..no rust, chips or broken tines. Just a small section of the China guard is missing but I have lots of extras! LOL

Check out the lime on the element and fine filter!

That's probably the worst I've ever seen - and I thought we had hard water here. It looks like sand and pebbles from the tap there!

The racks have been petrified by a protective layer of scale (rock) so it will be interesting to see what can be done with them. That dishwasher cleaner works miracles though, it can be done. The tank however... Perhaps you should just chisel an epitaph in the bottom and let it go to appliance heaven.
 
WOW!!!

I wonder if dumping a bunch of vinegar in there would get most of that out. I know I bought a bakelite agitator on ebay a while back that was completely white because it was caked with lime deposits. I soaked it over night for a couple of nights in vinegar. It eventually turned that lime into a paste and it wiped right off.

I know you can clean this machine up and it'll look good as new again. It looks really nice.

Racks aren

Actually, the racks are just covered in what almost looks like dried out black mildew. Oh yeah lets just wash the dishes right now!

I hope to get to it this weekend and will be using the Dishwasher Clean stuff jet dry puts out. I dont want to use anything really harse as I dont want to etch the porcelain. I think it may just shine up nicely.
Worst case will be take all the innards and put them into my 20 tank and make a 21 daily driver!
Been using that same tank for years with many different models' mechanicals being used!
Stand by for some more pics if I get to it!
 
ooh clean it with

this is like my favourite.I use it to get the calcium out of out stainless steel dishwasher i just let it soak for about an hour should be fine and then i run it on the longest cycle possible :)

Progress report!

Okay ran a complete cycle with dishwasher magic and kept returning the drain water to the tank. Definitely got rid of the soap residue not too good on the lime but did loosen alot of it. Now running Cascade Total action in it as well clean water for each cycle segment and it is loosening the black stuff on the racks. The door is getting clean and the machine is fairly quiet, though the classic Kitchenaid motor/pump sound is still there even though it has the Emerson motor. Only thing that seems to need fixing is the heater element in the blower. Not getting hot at all. Well, have to have something to do tomorrow!
Also want to double check the sump heater. seems like it should be drawing more than 10 amps. But I did not measure the actual input voltage.

Don't Watch Tool Time before wrking on any machine!

I was inspired by Tim on Home Improvement and attacked the Monterrey!
I decided to use the Muriatic Acid treatment rather than waiting for anything else to work.

Andrew, the CLR worked on the door where there was light accumulation but did nothing to the sump or strainer.
Well, I tried the muriatic acid and it worked!

Only problem was what splashed onto the fine strianer ate thru it but almost all the scale is gone! Alot of it was soap too so the fumes were really bad.
I mixed the acid with about a gallon of water and ran the pump and the washarms unclogged nearly immediately,

Now I will have to use one of my spare pump tops!
Looks like it is shaping up. Pics to follow! Shortly
