Greetings:

It appears that the motor on our 2000 KitchenAid dryer has seized up. I have the front off and the drum out and the motor will not turn at all. Unless something is stuck in the blower (haven't torn the back off yet) my guess is that the motor bearings are frozen. Is it possible to oil them to get it going or is it a throw-away motor at this point?

Thanks for any advice!

possibly

might be able to oil it up and get it worked free-have been
able to do that before and motors lasted for years afterward.
could also check appliance repair shops for a used(or new if
worth the cost)motor.Motor failure is very rare, but i recently
found a 2005 WP dryer with bad motor-belt end bushing was bad
and rotor was dragging stator, this dryer was a newer design
with blower in left front of dryer, pulley facing back.

Won't hurt to try, you won't be out anything but the time/effort required to do it. Neighbors recently gave my dad an Amana dryer. It'd run a few mins, then quit ... sit for a while, repeat. We found the motor bearings very stiff, ran some oil down the shafts, it loosened right up. Neighbors didn't want it back. We cleaned it all up. Dad sold it, advising the buyers of what we did, offered to take it back for a refund if it quits again within a short/reasonable time. Remains to be seen how that deal works out for him.

Thanks guys

If there is nothing stuck in the fan I will try to oil the bearings in the motor with turbine oil. I will post back with my findings.

Thanks,

Andrew S.

Motor OK (whew!)

It turns out that a pair of my wife's panties must have gotten sucked into the lint filter opening when she was cleaning the filter (and boy is she embarrassed!) We sometimes place folded laundry on top of the dryer - maybe that isn't a good idea! They got wrapped around the fan and jammed it up. At least that is all it was.

At least it gave me a chance to clean the dryer as it was due again for that.

Talk about having your panties in a twist!

It must be a top mount filter type of dryer. With the machine running and the filter removed for cleaning there is quite a bit of suction being created by the fan motor.
I still think the top mount filter dryer is one of the best designs ever made.
