Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

The KD 23 style dishwashers use a drain check valve that screws into the pump assembly. It’s the same as a whirlpool power clean check valve.

It is not the same as a GE check valve that was for the older Hobart style machines.

If the check valve is sticking open on the 23 you will hear a sucking sound either at the air, Gafford disposer, etc. depending on where your drain line is attached to the drain system in the house.

I’ve almost never seen problems with this style check valve. I’ve got a box of 50 of these things. I’ve been throwing them away but if you need one, let me know.

Your KitchenAid one and the later whirlpool power, clean, check valves had a little rubber seal in them. The older whirlpool check valves which are interchangeable use a plastic ball which gave less trouble, but it made a little clicking noise when it stopped draining, and they went to the rubber diaphragm because it was quieter.
