KUDS220T4(will not drain)

Just ran a load of dishes this morning using Normal cycle. The DW did the prewash, rinse, wash, and stopped midway in the rinse cycle. The timer advances, the water fills, but the DW will not drain.

Called for service and will be out on Thursday to find the problem. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the drain solenoid. It should be an easy fix.

There is a check valve that sits in the drain hose line to prevent water from the sink backing up into the d/w. Sometimes they clog. If the motor runs in the drain cycle, but no drain, you can check this yourself. If the motor doesn't run during the drain cycle ( this model has a reversing motor, no drain solenoid) could be a timer issue. Let me know..

With Coldspot. Also make sure that the wiring harness to the motor is intact and tight. Dont forget to check the wires on the start relay too.

We need to know if it runs in reverse(drain) so we can suggest other possibilities. Let us know!

It fills, but the motor does not run. No wash action and no drain.

AHHHH!

Okay, Gary, you will have to drain the machine manually and explore further.
Best to use a wet dry vac to get the water out of the tank. Then you will have to take off the wash arm support and that will expose the wash impeller. See if you can move it by hand and if not, you have something stuck further down and will have to get to the drain area and explore what is jamming the motor.If it turns and there is no sound, then you may have a bad motor.
Again, check all the wiring and make sure it is all connected.
Do you hear any humming coming from it? If it is jammed, it will try to start and then trip out the thermal overload device and wont do anything till the windings cool off.
If you have a bad pump, there are guys out there that have them available complete for a reasonable price.

From what I heard of this issue, there was a burning smell but no action.

Sounds like motor is getting electricity.

Also confirmed that a glass, etc, has not recently broken in the machihne. Why motor appears to be locked, I don't know.

Determined to be the timer. No power to the motor.

New timer is $161 plus labor.

About $300 total.

Need to save a classic.

Couldnt be easier!

To DIY! get the timer. It is held in by 4 screws and two locking electrical connection blocks. Unsnap them, plug in the new timer and reattach it to the door...

Oh and cant forget the 4 small screws on top and one holding the endcaps to the control panel after you take off the handle.

Come on, Gary. Dont fork over all that money!

Let me check tomorrow, but I think I have this timer on a machine that was hardly used. The machine was in a summer home.
Let me know here if you are interested here, and I will dig the machine out. I was going to part it out anyway.
I agree with Steve. You can replace this timer yourself! It is all plug & play. A few screws, and you are there....

Gary and Brent, if Brent cant get to it,I wouldnt mind parting my current daily driver 20 out to you! Gives me an excuse to install the KDS21M I have in the garage that I showed on here a few weeks back!

Brent, how could you keep that 21 hidden and unused?
No the timers aren't the same and I just realized that I must have been delirious when I offered to part out the 20..how would that ever match the 22 in question?

I would suggest again that you should do it yourself Gary. Just make sure they have the 22 timer for you. If you have the
original part number, I would check with www.sears.com/parts for a price or give me the number and I will check with Marcone Appliance parts and gladly extend my discount to you. They will even ship it directly to you for me! ou may save some big bucks.

I think that I have two 21's.
Gary, can you post your pictures of your KUDS22 again? I think that I remember you posting pictures awhile back. Especially if you have pictures of the push buttons. It seems to me that the 21 & 22 cycles were the same. With a picture of your machine, I can compare.
I know this may sound crazy, but I can detect what I have better by seeing the layout of the machine, and remember that way, than going through all of them, and searching for model numbers. Most of them are stacked three dishwashers high.
I need to start breaking most of these down for parts for just this reason. There is no way in the world I could ever use them all in a lifetime, and I have my stash of the ones that I want to keep for personal use.
Don't get disappointed Gary, a timer will turn up I just know it.

IIRC, the 22 added the "Quick Glass" cycle to it's options. It also had buttons all the way across the right side where the 21 had the space between the set of 7. 3 space 4 setup!
I am ready to stand corrected on that one!
