Re Grandmother's Maytag

She replaced it because she was told it was not repairable. I have no idea what year she bought it. But it surely was a worker. I wish i would have known, or I would have kept it for myself. :)

67 whilpools

Agiflow-they are 67's, possibly the book didn't get an update copywright for some reason. The beautiful Maytag set is at least a 66. But thanks Don for all of these good pictures. You done good, man

I know those are period colours!

psychedelic period, at that.

Please don't think that years of rental living (flat white latex) has warped me totally.

I like to mix a saturated colour, a related pastel, and white.

Oh, so I guess it finally DID give her a "minute's worth of trouble" :-)

How much do you want to bet that it WAS repairable and she just got a lazy repairman?

Repairable

Repairable is a decision the customer makes based on the cost of the repair. Most everything can be repaired but at what cost. The repairman, at least this repairman, gives the customer an estimate to repair the machine with, possibly, a recommendation. Ultimately it is the customers choice weather it is repairable or not. A "lazy" repairman won't be around long since his job depends on making money, thus repairs. Repairman who only make a service call charge on every call would not be too successful. If the customer feels the cost of the repair is too high, one can look for alternatives. Buy new, look for another repairman who may charge less, fix it themself, etc.

Wow, awesome Norges and Maytags. (Remember the days when you could tell the name of the washer and/or dryer from its control panel?) Love the colors of those Whirlpools.

If I ever have a laundry room (I live in an apartment), I'm going to introduce some color to it. I recently washed and dried my queen size comforter at a new laundromat / cafe that just opened near me. (It's actually an interesting concept, you can have lunch/coffee/or the spirit of choice (they have a liquor license) while doing your laundry, but I digress.) They have a laundry themed wallpaper border around the perimeter of the main room. So, at a minimum, I would have a laundry themed wall paper border in a laundry room of my own.

BTW, here's a link to a newspaper article of the laundromat cafe:

I think the reason everything went to plain white-on-white also includes the fact that many people think of house as "investment" rather than as "home," so anything that's too personalized is seen as "hurting resale value." And the result is homogenized dullness.

The other thing about those laundry rooms: all that space! Holy cow! Especially the one where the kids are playing on the floor, but also the green room and the magenta room.

GIMME, GIMME, GIMME!

Hate to sound like a spoiled child, but...Say yes to all of the above! Jason, I don't know where that laundry room pic with the Hotpoint Lady Executives is supposed to be, but they sure didn't put anything like that in our old 1967 brick rancher! I'll take mine with a window please.

BTW: Jason and Todd; you are both looking most dapper in that laundry room pic! ;-)

Yellow laundry room

Personally I'd rip out that GE combo and move it to a better location.

I would then proceed to fill the empty space with a dishwasher or a refrigerator, or an ice-maker and VOILA intstant wet bar!.. LOL

what is that?

'69 or '70 Hotpoint Lady Executives (I Think)

What is that underounter appliance with a black toe-kick that is undercounter next to the dryer

Electric cabinet-style water heater?

Mini -fridge?

Mini bar (stress-relef) for the woman in that houswife hell? LOL?
