Is this available anywhere anymore. I never see it, but I used it for years on every load I washed. It was really great on whites and light colors.

La France as been discontiuned for ages, it's even hard to find NOS boxes.

Basically Dial Corp bought the brand from the company that was making it,but that company continued to produce the product. All at once the company stopped production/closed up shop leaving Dial Corp basically empty handed. All that was left was what was in stock/distribution/stores, once that went that was all she wrote.

Every now and then you can find various vintages of La France on eBay, and or estate sales/thrifts.

Hi Laundress. I remember La France when I was growing up. I also miss Snowy bleach. I really like the scent.

We used Snowy when I was growing up, as well. I love the scent. It's now owned by Reckitt/Benckiser. In addition to the powder the brand is now available in liquid. I can still buy both locally. It still smells as I remember it.

Vive LaFrance?

LaFrance bluing was originally made by General Foods--for a while they also made something called Satina which you mixed into your cooked starch to make ironing easier. Many years ago, I found an ancient packet of Satina at a yard sale. It now has a place of honor with my other antique kitchen decorations.

General Foods got out of the laundry products business when it sold LaFrance to Dial...some of you older Discuss-0-Matics may remember they also made S. O. S. soap pads before the brand was sold to Clorox in the 1970s.

Incidentally, General Foods even dabbled in the enzyme pre-soak business circa 1970...they made a blue powder that looked like a cross between LaFrance and powdered Snowy called Discover...their big gimmick was that you added Discover right to the wash, like LaFrance, instead of pre-soaking with it like Biz or Axion.

Glad you can find powdered Snowy...it's all but nonexistent in the St. Louis area! I liked it too...that wintergreen scent was different from just about any other product on the market!
