Hello All! I am looking for some information on the cycle sequences, owners manual or other information about the 66 Lady Kenmore Dishwasher and the 3-speed 1-18 Frigidaire. Specifically, what is the difference between short wash and light wash on the dishwasher and what are the speed/soak/agitate combinations on the 8 different fabric selector settings on the 1-18? If anyone has a manual or printed information I would love a copy or if any of you know the answers let me know. With this vast pool of knowledge I know I will have answers soon! Don

Lastly, Harvest Gold is not my color, would love to find a white cabinet or 1-18 dryer as I have the control panel to match this washer. The last dishwasher on my dream machine list is the LK one year prior, the 65 so if someone runs across one let me know. That is the one Robert installed the window in the door which is so cool to watch.
 
LK Short wash VS Light Wash

Don, If I remember correctly on this particular machine, the 'light wash' will run through the first sequence of W-R-R on the timer then advance directly to off (no drying cycle)while 'short wash' will advance through to the second sequence of W-R-R and then onto dry. If don't remember if there were instructions on the detergent cups to indicate which was to be used for these cycles... Oy, I guess memory IS the first thing to go... LOL

Again, this is based on my recollection only! I never actually saw the manual for this one, so I'd also be interested to see what it says.

Don, you have nice machines! I have a similar 1-18 washer but mine is a two speed and it lacks the "hand-washable" option (it has a second "delicate" option instead).

I also switched the lid on my (also harvest gold) 1-18 but I kept the original one. Unfortunately, the instructions at the back of my original lid might differ too because it's not a 3 speed model.
I also wish mine were white! I know someone who has the exact same washer with a harvest gold cabinet that he's going to interchange with a white one and his matching DECI dryer is already white.


I think Frigidaire still have scanned copies of the WCI and/or WIC 3 speed models like yours on it's website. Not highly detailed or great quality scans like those Robert does but still helpful! If I can't find the link (unfotrunately, the database isn't searchable but I manually entered many addresses and inventoried most of the GM-Frigidaire manuals they have). I'll email you a copy of it as I have saved the PDF file on my computer.

Thanks for this information Phil, I so appreciate this as it gets me closer to the answers I am looking for. What did they call the third speed on the 1-18? I know Kenmore uses extra slow. Your set is really nice, I had the dryer as well but only saved the top as it was a mess. Greg Nunn and I were talking earlier that the high end 1-18's did not have a window lid, isn't that backwards, you would think they would. Thanks for the email that is coming, you are very kind!

The Hand Washable setting is what gets you the lowest of the 3 agitation speeds. That's where my machine's panel differs from yours as mine is a 2 speed. From what I understand, GM phased out the 3 speed WIC model and replaced it with the 2 speed WIC-A model during the 1977 model year.

Thank you so much, I looked through this briefly and have already learned so much. I wondered how long "extended soak" delayed the cycle, only to find that it is until I move the timer. Love this! What a fully featured machine.
 
I like the extended soak feature.

I also like the pre-wash/wash/extra rinse options.

BTW, the LK dishwasher is the one Paul used to have? I really like this dishwasher. I was with Paul when he got it along with his '65 LK washer. The owners also had a nice avocado SxS Kenmore or Coldspot refrigerator.

Here's a Tide ad I got featuring a Frigidaire WIC-A washer. Note that the cabinet is painted in the non-shaded "Wheat" color from late 1977 and 1978.

That's true! But it's amazing to see all the higher end washers in the club that didn't originally come with a window lid now having one!

Other than the TOL "High Fashion" 1969 WXP models, I think window lids were mostly reserved for the coin-op models, Gold Crowns and other special series which were not high end... Here in Canada, I don't think Frigidaire sold any washer with the window lids, except coin-op models maybe but I have never seen any of these coin operated models in Canada! (I guess I'm not old enough for that!).
 
In college

There was a laundrymat that had all rollarmatics and I think with window lids. I remember inquiring about those and was told the owners keeps the parts off of the machines that were no longer working to keep the others running as long as possible. It is no longer there but I wonder what happend to all those machines. I bought the 1-18 set from another club member a few years ago, the motor had been replaced by a 2 speed. John Lefever pointed me in the right direction this past winter to someone who had a 3 speed for sale which I bought for this machine. I haven't used a 1-18 machine for a few years, great washer, wish the cabinet construction was a bit more sturdy and I didn't have to bang the lint filter so hard against the tub to clean it but it is a work horse for sure!

First thought yesterday : Are the light were from elsewhere , or do these beauties light up? And now today: Amazing. Didn't know they lit up. And from such a unique place on the panel.

Thanks for the texts and charts; they're so satisfying. These TOL 1-18's are to die for. Love the Infinite Soak. The Haier has one, too.

They give two good paragraphs about the PP & Knits cycles. They say that the cooling spray and the spin are simultaneous. Does this differ from the regular spray rinse in that the spray starts immediately with the spin, rather than waiting for the spin-drain to complete?

Sorry to be pesky, but I love this stuff.

Wish they had included paragraphs on the other cycles as they do for PP & K, even though the chart gives all the basics.

And for a chuckle: We're all so alike yet so different. All but two of my machines are white. I do not want any more white washing machines. Only colors, please.
