Hopefully I'm in the correct place. A friend is selling a Lady Kenmore d/w for 35 dollars. .model # 587720711.....serial# 1095802 0474....catalog# 72071. I don't see any mold, a bit of calcium deposit but not much, the hoses need replaced, and the cord has bee cut off leaving the wires hanging about 6 inches. Can anyone tell me the year of this and if its even worth the asking price? Any info would be appreciated thank you. Cheryl

kemore Dishwasher

This is a top of the line 1974 Kenmore. It sounds like it was permanently installed at some point. Make sure that the tub is not rusted out around the chrome ring around the sump inside. They were very prone to rust thru.Otherwise this is a nice machine. Good luck!

Kenmoreman there is a bit of rust around the sump at least I think its the sump its on back left floor. Can it be repaired? Lol.
Appnut yes the top rack is round and the racks are a yellowish color.
Kenmoreman, appnut and cuffs thank you all for your advice, yea I've wanted a vintage lady Kenmore dishwasher forever, but with the rust, I gotta think..lol.

I had one about the same year. Great machine for cleaning. Another rust place to watch for that eventually ruined mine was the 2 screws that are on the bottom of the door can wear through the porcelain and it will leak there. Only downside is a long or short heated dry. I would set a timer for 22 minutes on normal wash, hit cancel drain, open the door, spin the roto rack and as soon as you could handle the heat from the dishes, they were dry enough to put away.

Rust

If you can clean the rust down to metal and then apply white epoxy it should be ok. Sears had a massive recall on these tubs and I can tell you they replaced thousands of them in warranty and under service agreement. I know because I changed many myself. Good luck!

Thank you Kenmoreman, I think I'll go ahead and get it- it will be fun fixing and cleaning her up as long as I can convince hubs this is my new toy and not his. I'm sure I'll have more questions lol..thank you all cheryl

One last thought

If you ever run into a Sears disnwasher that has a hand written model and serial # it means that the tub was replaced by service probably because of rust.
