My scientific wild guess: the 'light' wash option ran through as W-R-R then shut off, so what would be the second wash of the normal or 150 degree wash cycle was in fact the final rinse for the short cycle.

Basing this on my foggy memories of the avocado Lady K... Let's how good my imagination really is... LOL

The reason this was done was D&M cheeped out and used the detergent dispenser solenoid to also release rinse agent every time the DD solenoid was activated, D&M never spent one cent more than absolutely needed when building these DWs. The problem was that rinse agent can make the wash water foam especially when the wash temperature in nice and hot which these D&M built DWs could easily do if the hot wash cycle was used. This combination could result in even MORE leaking than usual on these poorly designed and cheaply built machines. This was also a waste of rinse agent, LOL.

Good observation Don, but I will never have the least bit of respect or praise for D&M built DWs, I struggled with too many over the years and am truly glad that there none left in use any longer among our customers.
 
My early 70's Lady Kenmore had the display lights letting you know exactly what it was doing. Normal/Power wash was W-R-R-W-R-R dry. Light wash went R-W-R-R dry. Sani temp only worked in the final rinse, regardless of the cycle chosen. It did not offer an air dry, just heated dry, so I set a timer for 22 minutes on normal, hit cancel/drain button and open the door. But that roto rack cleaned better than any dishwasher I have had since.

I was hoping you would answer this question as I thought you might know. I don't like the idea of all that extra suds, not in a dishwasher anyhow, the bathtub would be ok. LOL

The Lady K's of this era were phenomenal cleaners. Maybe not the sturdiest or longest-lived machines, but I think they would've scoured rust off a battleship if you could have gotten it into the Roto-Rack.

I will never have any praise or respect for D&M built DWs. I could not agree more!

These are the domestic version of the nearly unsusable ADS/Auto-Chlor and other poorly made and low performing chemical lease machines that the foodservice industry has been disgraced with. LONG LIVE HOBART!
