I was curious is the "Norge" name still used on washers and dryers...and if its not..how long ago was the name used?

Wondering the same thing about

I was wondering about the "Magic Chef" nameplate too. As far as I can tell, it was originally an independant name, but was bought out by Maytag in the seventies sometime so that they could enter the cooking market. I have not seen a range or an oven made with the 'magic chef' name in quite a while. I have though seen some inexpensive microwaves at some of the discout big box stores with the Magic chef name. It does not appear on Maytag's web page anywhere, and doing a search on Magic Chef doesn't return anything to do with an appliance company.

I still sell some Magic Chef appliances. Maytag has a full line of appliances under that brand. The micros & small refrigs in the bigbox stores are products produced overseas to which Maytag licensed the name.

My parents had a Magic Chef range in the back room, of course now destroyed by Katrina. It wasn't anything fancy, just a black and white 4 burner 30 inch electric range. No window. Must've been a Maytag :-P

My parents have a two family house. In 1980, they bought a 20" Magic Chef range for their tenent's apartment.

Norge-Magic Chef connection

Norge was the home appliance division of Borg-Warner. B-W sold Norge to Fedders, which owned the Magic Chef brand. The result being that, under Fedders, Norge-designed washers were also sold under the Magic Chef name.
