Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Horsepower is misleading as well...there is really no difference between the Norge's 3/4 and the Maytag's 1/3, IMHO. And to top it off, the Unimatic uses a 1/4 HP motor to drive the transmission and spin the tub at 1140, with no reduction gearing whatsoever!

Yes Norge really did put3/4hp motors in their machines as I had one through Montgomery Wards and saw it a time or two. Yes it was bigger than most but still in the bottom of the washer near the belt on the outside bottom of the washer. All I know is what I have seen when using a Maytag washer and comparing it to a Norge, the Norge was much stronger and didn't bog down under heavy loads. For instance we could puttwo twin size fuzzy blankets in at one time and it would roll them over with out missing a stroke. And also that is because of the 202 degree turbo sweep agitator.

One other thing about Maytag washers was the power flex agitator which had the flexable fins at the bottom these agitatiors tended to fray the edges of towels faster than a solid fin. How I know this is when my wife and I were first married we were using a Maytag and it was about a year after that my wife was doing the washing and she came up to me with a towel and asked me why all of our towels were starting to fray around the edges. I said it was because of using a Maytag washer with the flexable fins. She said that she would not have believed it if she hadn't seen it for her self.
and the fact that they were underpowered.
