The last Sears store in Washington is closing Dec 15. It's located in the Southcenter mall which is just south of Seattle. It is one of the last 9 operating Sears left open in the US. Article in the Seattle Times does not go on to say where the remaining open stores are. Interesting! Greg

San Antonio Texas lost our Sears last year, in Rolling Oaks Mall. The mall was pretty much dead at that time, I went the last week they were open and bought new sheets for my bed, they are holding up quite well. It was very sad to see the entire state of the store and mall. I just wanted to leave, I’ve never been back. Depressing.

Such a shame.

When I was in the USA in 1981/2 Sears was HUUUGE, Sears stores were everywhere and everybody had Sears brands in their homes. I was really impressed with Sears, such an extraordinary range of stuff.

A funny anecdote from that time... I was an exchange student, 17 years old and doing senior year at high school. My host brother was about the same age, he had a car and it needed new tyres/tires. I was more the car person, so I phoned Sears for him, and asked to be put through to the tire department. Because of my Australian accent, they put me through to the toy department...

What caused the downfall of Sears?

I thought they were already all gone. Ours closed about 10 years ago and after sitting empty for awhile Marshalls moved into the first floor, upstairs is probably empty. The Craftsman and Kenmore names seem to be living on in tools and small appliances at more stores now maybe in name only, who knows who makes the stuff
