Tonight, I happened to catch a bit of this show on Antenna TV. The three principal chracters appeared in the kitchen for breakfast. In the wall behind Mr. Gregg was a Hotpoint double oven with the microwave oven on top and the conventional oven below. The cooktop was not clearly visible, but immediately to its left was a HP dishwasher of the style with the overhang above the door. Back when this show was broadcast in prime time, I had not yet started cruising ranges with the same intensity reserved for laundry appliances and I did not get to see this show that often because of bedtimes. I mostly remembered the gorgeous Chrysler automobiles, but now, if they ever go back in the kitchen, I will be on the lookout for a better shot of the cooktop. I think there was another season with gas appliances, but this is not so readily researchable.

I'm sure you know some of these episodes show up on YouTube, I was wondering a couple of days ago what the appliances were. It's my favorite show of the '50s-'60s. Peter also has use of a General Electric Swivel-Top on an episode where he composes the music for a sci fi television show.

Noreen Corcoran was a sister of Kevin Corcoran who charmed us in many Disney pictures. As for the above suggestion, I think Mr. Forsythe in BVDs certainly would have captured my attention. He had that look about him like the men in a Sears catalog, maybe even one of the underwear models. Even in those pre-pubescent days, handsome actors caught my eye. Daddy was in New York at a convention when Mr. Forsythe entered the dining room at the Waldorf. He was announced (how embarrassing) and people applauded. Daddy was not impressed. He said something about "puts his pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else."

General Electric Swivel Top! A neighbor had one in the 60s. She burned out the motor when she replaced the disposable filter bag with a grocery sack, no doubt a warranty breaker. She told it so matter-of-factly that I had to leave the room to laugh over such a basic lack of mechanical aptitude. I guess that is why owner's manuals sometimes seem written for primary grade children. I wonder what would have happened if someone tried to replace the bag in a Hoover upright with a grocery sack. Would it have split the bottom seam? Maybe there would have been enough air leakage around the tube that it would just have redeposited dirt. She was a wonderful, kind person & eventually got a PhD and attended and lectured in universities in Europe & the UK, but was just not focused on day-to-day things.

Brent, that's neat.

Alan, thanks for the YouTube tip.

I inherited a February 1958 Walt Disney's Magazine from my roommate, which has a two page spread called "Moochie gives a party" accompanied by six pix and only two paragraphs of copy. It's all very sweet and ordinary looking, no Hollywood crap, just a bunch of cute kids having a cookout. Cheryl Holdridge and Tim Consodine are among the guests. Cheryl was a doll, and Tim was about the best looking thing I ever saw.  I always liked the Corcorans, and when I discovered "Bachelor Father" years after the last broadcast, instantly recognized Noreen as one of "THE" Corcorans. I think she became an attorney, hope the others are doing at least as well.

The house kitchen at 1163 Roxbury Drive has two side by side wall ovens and a dark electric cooktop with knobs. You can see them in Dear Bentley, and Kelly's Tangled Web, on YouTube.

It's a shame about Kelly Corcoran, dead at age 43, Noreen, friendly with John Forsythe until his death, I like that. I like that Tommy Kirk got something for his work, even that late. I like him, always thought he was cute. Poor Sammee Tong, one of my favorites, committed suicide due to gambling debts.
