But I saved the absolute best for last!!!

For the grand sum of 10.00....The Absolute cleanest, next to new Model 12 Mixmaster I have ever seen, the guy in the antique mall who had it said, well,it has no beaters or bowls so 10 .00 So I took it to the checkout VERY QUICKLY, brought it home, went to my storage building, retrived both bowls and beaters!!! And set it on the counter, oiled it ,plugged it in, runs like brand new!!!!

Great scores Hans. That Sunbeam model 12 is beautiful. Even the decals are perfect. IMHO that is Sunbeam at its finest!!

Terry

Never ever seen that Universal pan, very neat. I know someone that will pay you a million dollars for it (not me) right Terry.

And the Sunbeam, that looks like it was never used, probably wasn't used much at all.

Hans,

Our friends have the complete set of Aristo Craft cookware by West Bend, and Elaine says she wouldn't trade it for anything, not even vintage Revere Ware.

Aristo Craft vs Revere!

There really is no comparing the two,Revere will BURN WATER...My Mom and Aunt always had it, I burned everything I ever tried to cook in it,Aristo Craft is thick and heavy, three plies of metal,it heats even, but of course I dont use high heat with any good cookware.

Hans, I have that same cast iron skillet, but I"m not sure if it's Wagner or not. It's probably 12", maybe a bit bigger. I think it belonged to one of my grandmothers. I've used it a couple of times to make a huge batch of cornbread.

Square skillet

Hans,

My grandmother also had a square cast iron skillet that she always made pancakes in, as well as scrambled eggs. The skillet was fairly large, about 14 inches. How big is the skillet that you bought?

Hanns,

I would love to tag along with you some time when you go on one of your treasure trip. BTW, do you ever get the chance to go to the big Antique Fair Festival that is held in Liberty, NC?
John

Great finds! I found a beautiful mixer complete like that a couple years ago and wife NEVER used it. Sold it in a garage sale this summer :( Nothing like a great frying pan as well!

In 1957 we lived in Kansas City and a horrible tornado came through and destroy my parents home and all inside was gone. She purchased a brand new copper bottom Revereware skillet, largest you can get. She tempered it well over the years cooking for the family. I now have owned it for the past 20 years or so. It has been and will always be the best fryer in the house for large cooking jobs.

Congrats on the great finds!

Answers!

John, We have been to Liberty several times, You are welcome to go Junking with us anytime. As for the Wagner skillet, its 9 1/2 inches square, I also have a Wagner saute pan that is about 8 1/2 inches that was my Aunts,Also have all my Grandmothers Griswold, which was all she would have.As for the Revere Ware...My Mom and Aunt loved it, but I never had any luck cooking in it,to my mind it is way too sensitive to heat changes.I do think it is about the best looking stuff when all polished up .

We have an assortment of vintage Revere & Rena Ware, and my Mom has all Revere Ware, so I guess I'm kinda biased. I like the heaviness of the Rena Ware, but love the Revere for boiling and melting things fast.

Rena Ware

I have never found much Rena Ware around here, but have found TONS of Towne Craft,Saladmaster,Presto Pride,Kitchen Kraft and also tons of vintage aluminum..Wear Ever and the like.

I shiver when the Ruskin Heights Tornado is mentioned

Fordtech

Was that the Ruskin Heights tornado, May 20 1957? I heard about it many times from a family who lived there then. The mother hurried and had just got the kids/toddlers and baby in arms and down the stairs to the basement. Then the tornado hit. As she descended the stairs shereached to close the stair door... but the door and house were gone. It was that close.

Here's an excerpt from the memorial page...
"...Shortly after Dad arrived on the scene, Reverend Collier came up to him and laid his arm on Dad’s shoulder. "All of them were in the basement when the storm hit and everyone survived. Maxine took the children to a house where they would be cared for and bedded down for the night." Relieved to learn that we were alive and in a safe place, Dad plunged his gratitude into the task of helping others in distress. He worked well into the night and finally caught up with us long past our bedtime. "

The story I heard about the stair door was Jennie Collier's, it was she (Rev Collier's wife) who had just got the kids down the stairs in time.

YES! RUSKIN HEIGHTS TORNADO!

fltcoils, Yes! That was the one. We lived in Martin City. My parents knew the people who were killed in the car that was smashed into the water tower. Our home was completely leveled and like the story you mention, my mother saw the funnel cloud and Dad and her grabbed up the 4 of us and just made it into the crawl space under the house. We had no basement, just a crawl space. We got some cuts and scratches out of it but thank the Lord we all came through it. I have seen a lot of photos my Dad took. The floor of the house was all that remained. He said most of the house was out in the street. Some of his stuff was found in Ruskin Heights which was over 5 miles from Martin City. They said the kids were always all over the neighborhood on most days, but by some miracle all of us were in the house together on May 20 1957 at that given moment.

Here is one picture my Dad took of what was left
