I washed a couple of blankets today, cotton woven type.  Both had been washed a number of times over the years.  One was green and one was ivory.  Now one is green and the other is light green, not what I want.  I rewashed the used to be ivory one in hot water with bleach and it lightened just a bit.  I plan on leaving it soaking overnight in just detergent and water, and I need to try something else tomorrow, but I have no idea what.

Any suggestions?

Reminds me when I washed 2 navy blue bath rugs along with a pink rug together from separate bathrooms in warm water. The blue rugs were unchanged, but the pink rug came out of the Maytag in a pretty fuchsia color, lol. Still have that fuchsia rug in the master bath.

Both had been washed a number of times over the years.

Have these been washed together a number of times over the years?   If they've usually been washed separately until this go round, why did you wash them together.  Now you know why I'm such a picky sorter not only by fabric but by color.  My mom ruined a number of things over the years.  Some people think I"m crazy, but I will not wash darker and lighter shaded things together, there's bound to be some color running even after things are old.

I am a rabid sorter also.  Dark brown with dark brown. Black with black or dark blue. Dark green and dark red together. Light blues, yellows, greens, together. No colors or tans with whites.  Also no mixing of cottons and synthetics in the same load.

Maybe Shout color catcher or  Rit dye remover would help, but it may be too late to do anything about the color transfer.

I would try some Oxi-Clean. I would use warm water, though, not hot for this, hot will sometimes set stains.

Another rabid sorter here....

Pure white stuff, white with a bit of color on it, light colors, medium colors, darks, blacks and navy blues, and reds.

I'll add another vote for the Rit Color Remover; that stuff works great.

I tried the Rit, it took some of the color out but not all, now the blanket is a very pale green.  I used it in my Front loader and it made an incredible amount of suds, won't do that again.  I opted for the FL since it supposedly gets a bit hotter on sanitize than my tap water, the directions said use hottest water.

Ah well, no big loss, just frustrating.
