Why on earth are my white face cloth looks so grey after using any brand Liquid Body Wash?

I use very good detergents/Borax/LCB and still the cloth looks like they been runned over by 20 18 wheelers?
Is this stuff (Body Wash) made with clay or what?
And is there a way to regain the fabric back to the original state of whiteness. STPP didn't help.....

Larry, I had the same problem. It took many hours of soaking in Ocy_clean, then the white ones in bleach to get the stain of the body wash out. (It did take quite of few soaks to get the stain out. Tried different body washes and the same thing happened. Went back to soap.

Happens often enough, and have the same problem with some of our white washclots as well.

IIRC, the greying is caused by a build-up of the soap/body wash and skin oils on fabric and is very hard to shift indeed.

Like you have tried hot (120F to 160F)in the Miele with limited sucess, regardless of STPP. Am going to use my new boiling pot later this week to see if boiling with a bit of STPP and oxygen bleach will help matters.

Hi Laundress, Ray here.

It seems this just happens after one use in the shower with the wash cloth. I happen to have very dry skin, so I was just wondering if it would be body oil?

Guess they want you to use the nylon fluffy to shower with. lol

Let me know how you make out with the STPP. I will have to order some

Thanks for the quick responce L.. I thought I was doing something wrong and it's not just me.
I will do a hot STPP/Borax soak once I get settled. The Laundrymat machines does not wash as well as home units, but I will deal with it when I get resettled.

I've had the same problem with white washcloths. I can get them a little whiter with various methods of washing but I've had the best luck with ammonia in the wash to cut the oils and fats from soap. When they get too dingy, I toss them out. I just bought a stack of new washcloths from Costco a couple of weeks ago, 2/3 of them were colors but there are four white cloths that probably won't last more than a month or two.

Now go wash those sheets! ;-)

(I can't wait to hear reports of the boil-pot, L! I've thought of that several times since your original posting, very intriguing.)

Whiter Whites...

Hi Everyone.
I manage a Breakfast and Lunch Restaurant and I work the Egg Grill most busy days. My white T-shirts at the end of the day are spattered with Griddle shortening, a touch of Egg yolk here and there, Beef Blood form the Steak Tips, etc.
My latest method is to spray them down with Greased Lightening and leave them for about a 1/2 hour to 1 hour. Then I fill 3/4 of a 5 gallon pail with almost hot water and add about 2 cups of Cascade Complete or Cascade with Bleach. I soak them agitating them every so often for about 2-4 hours. Then I place them in my machine with Tide with bleach on Warm Water Wash for at least 8 minutes of agitation.About 1/2 way through the Wash Cycle I will then add about 3/4 cup of Clorox. (Regular). Then let the machine complete the cycle with a Cold Water Rinse.
It works pretty good gets out about 95 % of the soil.
